CHANT’S BIG ADVENTURE

In which Cynthia’s horse,
Chant undergoes minor surgery on his right front leg. He suffered a small
puncture wound that caused a localized infection in the tendon sheath. The
procedure calls for an antibiotic to be administered intravenously to the
tissues surrounding the injury.

What is this horse
saying?  He looks angry but he is really just bored and yawning.
Chant, the star of our little story, had no idea what was to befall him
during the next 4 hours.  Camille knows, though, and smiles impishly
from the surgery room as she helps remove all it’s contents prior to the
operation.

“Your Mission…”
The Vet said to Bob “…is to steady the horse as he falls down and
then help hobble him.”  Chant had been sedated and would soon
drop.  It takes a couple of strong people to help shore him up.
It wasn’t long after Chant’s knees started  buckling that he
crumbled.  After he was down, Peg, the anesthesiologist and Bob wrapped
hobbling straps around Chant’s ankles quickly while the Vet readied the
block and tackle.  Cynthia looks on.

Look what we did!  Have
you ever seen such a thing?  Before we knew it, we had hoisted Chant
into the air!  All 1100 pounds of him hung about two feet off the floor
while Peg and Camille slid a blue mattress beneath him.  Bob grins at
me through Chant’s hind legs.

The Vet administered the drugs
into Chant’s leg as Peg monitored his life signs and the anesthetic while
Cynthia squeezed a bulb to pressurize the intravenous drip for the Vet.

Portrait of a concerned horse
owner.  Cynthia looks on in disbelief that this type of injury would
happen to a horse just before a pre-purchase vet exam.

 Bob keeps Chant from
falling over by holding a rope tied to his tail and run through a
pulley.  He waited for over an hour for Chant to get back on his
feet.  The Vet, Bob and Peg closed the door, padded it from the inside
(note the padded walls!) and watched Chant until he woke up and staggered to
his feet.  The sweat on Chant was caused by lying on the plastic mat
for and hour and a half.

BOB’S COUSIN PATTY COMES TO
MAUI

Cousin Patty and her husband
Steve take time out from the kids in Wisconsin to visit Ka’anapali.  We
met them on the beach, swam, snorkeled, ate and posed for photos.  Can
you say “Trucker’s Tan?”

BLUE COLLAR WORLD

Whether its recycling or
planting grass, the weather and the vistas are almost always awesome!

WORKING FROM HOME

Here you have the Home Office
and the Home Service Station.

A DAY IN THE GARDEN

Cookie plants strawberries.

See how nicely the berm looks
after some ground cover and stones, and isn’t the agave happy!.

The garden has really taken
shape over the last six months.  Kind of linear, isn’t it?

FLOWERS, FLOWERS EVERYWHERE!

Flowers are such an easy way
to stay wealthy.  On the left,  begonias in the front with ti in
the back. On the right, these roses (The Prince) have the old rose fragrance
and take us right back into our childhood. Yes,  we finally broke down
and bought our first rose bush!
