BOB
AND CAMILLE ON MAUI

CHEERS

On November
2nd, after casting their votes for peace, Pamela and Camille went hiking in the Waihou Springs Forest
Reserve.  We walked into the forest, around the loop, down the
switchbacks to the springs and back up.  At the top, we toasted our efforts with beer
provided by Pamela.  For the rest of the story, check out Trekking
on Maui
.

TRAVELING
VICARIOUSLY

For a glimpse
into our future, we went and looked at other people’s travel journals.
Bob found some great sites with wonderful pictures of Casa Iguana and Little
Corn Island’s beaches, jungle, footpaths and architecture (such that is
it.)  For a more, click on Little
Corn Photos.

MOVING ALONG

With four
weeks to go, our belongings are beginning to shift.

Bob has been
busy moving files from our three computers onto one laptop which we will
share.  The kitchen table turned into a handy place to stage cables,
discs and manuals during the transition.

Camille went
through the closet on November 14 and tossed everything that wasn’t going to
Nicaragua onto the bed.

Which Bob then
took and used to pack boxes of knick knacks for storage in Colorado.

OUT OF CHAOS

Mom and Dad
gave us this print for our 10th Anniversary.  We are taking it with us
as a digital file.

DITTO FOR
CAMILLE’S BIRTHDAY PRESENTS

Pamela took a
lot of wonderful wildlife photos during her 10 years in Alaska.  She
gave Camille these outstanding images for her birthday in June.  The
picture above is the only picture Camille has ever seen of a whale actually
looking at the photographer.

You can tell
how remote and pristine Pamela’s world was up north from looking at these
pictures.

WE’RE SORRY

We feel we owe
the rest of the world an apology for all the damage the U.S. has done.

When we
stopped for our mail on November 13th, Josh at the One-Stop Postal Shop
showed us an amazing Website.  Hundreds of people are adding photos
like this to a Website called SorryEverybody.com every day.
This image showed up a little later on page
414
of their Gallery.

We took our picture while standing in front
of a wall hanging given to us by our friend, Susi Oak.  Bob pointed out
that Nicaragua is at the center of the earth as depicted on the
hanging.

SUNSET

This image
lured Camille outside on November 20.

Then, down
into the neighborhood she went, taking pictures along the way.

WHAT ARE THESE
PEOPLE TRYING TO SAY?

Camille heard
the soothing tones of flowing water and walked towards the source.  It
turned out to be a heavily-guarded water feature.  We were puzzled by
this.

The people who
installed this feature placed it in a conspicuous place rather than
somewhere more secluded.  They obviously wanted to show it off rather
than enjoy it in private.  Then they put up a big fence to keep the
public out.  Most people walking or driving past this fence wouldn’t
think to look beyond it.  However, they went one step further and
called attention back to the feature by posting three signs on the front of
the fence.

ONE LAST LOOK
DOWN THE HILL

The light is
nearly gone.  Time to turn the corner and walk on home.

This Month’s Quotes (in honor of the presidential election November, 2):

“Nonviolence doesn’t always work – but violence never does.”  Madge Micheels-Cyrus

“The people who burned witches at the stake never for one moment thought of their
act as violence; rather they thought of it as an act of divinely mandated
righteousness.  The same can be said of most of the violence we humans
have ever committed.” – Gil Bailie

“If we let people see that kind of thing, there would never again be any
war.”  –  Pentagon official on why the U.S. military censored
graphic footage from the Gulf War
