BOB AND CAMILLE MAKING THEMSELVES AT HOME

With good friends, Rob and Sharyl and a rousing round of Tiddly Winks. After which, we walked over to the Mexican restaurant and had a nice meal.

Joe and his friend, Shaun stopped by on their way across the country in these two biodiesel cars.
A SATURDAY DRIVE
Winter comes to this valley.
And it’s inhabitants. Although this bald-faced heifer looks like she’s keeping warm on this day. It looks like she is about to stick her tongue up her nose (like they do.) Funny little heifers!
WHERE THE BUFFALO ROAM
Er, um – at least where they’re pastured. We looked and looked for deer on these ridges and finally saw one by the creek below the road.
SPEAKING OF WATER
Here’s a pretty reservoir with almost no sign of human habitation.
A BIG SCORE
Camille holds a 5-pound box of local, organic Shitake Mushrooms. For a short photo essay about how these are grown, click on Inside a Mushroom Operation. She then spent the afternoon sautéing them with onions for storage in the freezer.
FOSSIL FUEL ZOO
These vehicles seem so pass, given the decline of fossil fuel reserves, that the sight of them behind this fence quite reminded us of a zoo. There are hundreds of these for sale on huge lots. It used to be a cheap way to retire – buy an RV and travel around the country, but not since we reached peak oil reserves and the price of fuel began to skyrocket.

We continued on our early Sunday morning walk down the empty streets and past some public art made with a blowtorch from a piece of steel.

HABITAT
Bob walks along the last few panels of this pole barn on November 27. We volunteered to help tear it down for Habitat for Humanity. The barn was a donation and will do good service as storage space for tools and equipment once it is rebuilt on Habitat land.

A SPROUT TOWER
Bob grew these and Camille helped him eat them. They are full of vitamins and as local as you can get. Sprouts have replaced lettuce in our diet until the Farmer’s Market kicks in next spring.
MY LITTLE PONY
Bob gave Camille a cute little pony named Trixie on November 28th. It came with the opening of a bank account and is now Camille’s constant companion. Trixie is as soft as a horse’s muzzle with bright little eyes and a wispy mane, tail and forelock. She even has nostrils and a red bandana! Am I smitten? Yes!
