Another Accident on the Moncure Pittsboro Road

Another day, another accident. Living on a busy road provides us enough sobering moments that we do not take life for granted. – April 12, 2015

AN UNMISTAKABLE SOUND

One minute we’re filling a plate with potluck food, the next we’re running out to the Moncure Pittsboro Road, drawn by the sound of tires on asphalt and metal against metal. We live on a stretch of road with a reduced speed limit of 45 on a 55-mph highway. To make it worse there are two passing zones in front of our house. This makes turning into or out of driveways dangerous because traffic that is traveling at 55 mph does not always slow down ten miles an hour. Instead, they often try to pass the vehicle seeking to make a turn. This was the third wreck we\’d seen over the past six months.

Camille has repeatedly engaged the Department of Transportation to study the matter. They measured the road and reviewed accident history, determining that both the speed limit and passing zones are within specifications.

MORE THAN A FENDER BENDER

To our dismay, we soon realized the driver was still inside her truck which had apparently hit the ditch, flew up in the air and landed right-side up and pointed in the opposite direction. Worse, we soon saw that the driver was a friend of ours. After what may have been the longest 15 minutes of our lives, an ambulance appeared, and paramedics carefully removed our friend from her truck and whisked her away.

ONE OF LIFE’s MIRACLES

Incredibly, the our friend survived with mild injuries and was in and out of the hospital within hours.

END OF STORY

We all felt a sense of closure when the truck left on a wrecker and much relief a few hours later when we heard from our friend that she was out of the hospital.
