THE CRITTERS OF OUR LIVES

THE FOUR GUINEAS OF THE APOCALYPSE

Every day they make their rounds, picking out bugs, taking dust baths and raising a ruckus when warranted.  At dusk, they fly up into the trees to roost.

OH DEER

Camille snapped this from the front porch of her bosses home in Goldston.  Virginia feeds corn to the deer daily and they know they have nothing to fear in her yard

GOATS MAKE US LAUGH

They are the clowns of the animal world.  These two funny animals live at Quiet Meadow Farms, another one of our employers.

SPIDERS AND ANTS

Camille was working at her desk one afternoon when a cicada flew into the big web outside the window.   The pile of dirt on the right is a fire ant mound.  The fire ants have been especially abundant this year, causing humans and pets to yowl and run for it.  Amanda's worms were all but destroyed by fire ants this month.

SNAKES AND SNAILS

We had not seen the black snake lately but ran into him/her while on a mushroom hunting expedition.  We also saw a snail.

AND A FROG

Camouflage is a fascinating trick of nature.  It takes a studied eye to pick out the fauna from the flora in these two photos.  For more pictures from our little walk, click on Sauntering Naturalists.
