FLOWERING GARDEN

June, 2009

ECHINACEA

Bob caught some breathtakingly beautiful shots of the Echinacea at 'golden hour' one evening.  He planted more flowers this year than last year.

POPPIES AND ZINNIAS

The poppies unfolded slow enough that the pods just kind of hung on in some cases.  Zinnias at 'golden hour" illustrate the importance of catching the light at it's best when trying to capture the vibrant life force.

SNAIL MAIL

We're not sure what kind of message the slugs were trying to convey with these convoluted trails.

BRIGHT LIGHTS CHARD

They look like candy but are so much healthier to eat.  We steam it for a side dish or use it  to make a Lemony Lentil Chard Soup.

ONIONS

The onions are doing well.  They look a bit as if someone told them, "Reach for the sky!"

'MATERS

'Round here everyone loves their 'maters, which is southern for tomatoes.  It's been a funny year for tomatoes but so far ours are flourishing.

LIFE AND DEATH IN THE BACK ROOM

We over wintered one of Piedmont's bananas in our back room and thought it had died.  Bob put the pot out in the garden and it came back to life.  Our peppers are huge, thanks to having started them in that same back room months ago.
