YELLOW IS NOT JUST A COLOR

 

It's the name we use for a house nestled on the edge of acres of property owned by friends which has served as intern housing for the past two years.   Yellow recently stood empty for a couple of months and was in need of some attention so a group of us pitched in to give her some aloha.  Here she is after a mow and some hedge trimming.

 

BEFORE

And here she is before an energetic group of us descended upon her with tractor, mowers, weed wackers, and hand tools.

 

EVERYTHING MUST GO

 

Word has been spread that it's time for a new chapter in Yellow's history so the pole barn out back is getting cleaned out.

 

NOW, DOESN'T THAT LOOK BETTER?

 

    Camille weeded and swept the front steps and Holden trimmed the crepe myrtles.  It's amazing how much difference a little care makes.

 

BROKEN FENCES

 

As you can see, there were a whole lot of weeds and lots of old and broken down fence.

 

FENCE BE GONE

 

This remnant of fence was one of the first to go.  The weeds went, too.

 

POST PULLER

 

Lyle wasn't messing around.  He chained the fence posts to the bucket of his Kubota and ripped them out!

 

VAST IMPROVEMENT

Now there is nothing left but the lawn and cypress.

 

MEN AT WORK

Bob and Lyle wrestle with a piece of plant propagation something or other.

 

ARCHEOLOGY

 

With a group effort, we cleared the weeds from the propane tank, air conditioning unit and hydrangea at the back of the house and found that much what was underneath was either lawn or white river rock.

 

THE BACK PORCH

 

   We all had a part in this transformation from 'neglectsville' to 'clean as a whistle.'  Every piece of furniture and every weed were gone by the time we were done.

 

SOUTHEAST SIDE TRANSFORMATION

 

Bob mowed and Tami took the weed whacker and restored self-respect to this entrance.

 

WATER GARDEN

 

More archeology.  There is a water feature nestled beneath the weeds behind this cute picket fence.

 

CAMILLE TAKES ON THE HEDGE OUT FRONT

   

Brand new loppers and limb saw in hand, Camille is dressed to liberate the front of the house from a suffocating hedge.

 

MAKING LIGHT OF IT

 

Two hours later, Camille has trimmed the hedge to the bottom window sill allowing more light to enter the master bedroom.
