Another month in the neighborhood with Bob and Camille

17 YEARS AGO - COLORADO 1990

This photo was taken of a thirty-six year old Camille while on a trail ride in the Colorado Rockies.  She sure had some fun times with Jesse, the Wonder Horse, who later became Bob's trusty saddle steed.

HARD TO BELIEVE

Camille at fifty-three beside a hibiscus bloom we had to photograph because we couldn't believe its size.  Granted, Camille has a small head, but this bloom was easily ten inches in diameter!

POOR LITTLE VEGANS

Another weekend breakfast on the first day of the month.  Home made chick pea and sesame seed Tempeh, marinated and fried, a cucumber raita made with herbs from the garden and tofu and sweet Texas cantaloupe.

A WET TRAIL

June 2 - we take off down the greenbelt once again.  This is the piece that is closest to our neighborhood.

IT'S ALWAYS SOMETHING

Have camera, will snap photos.  There is always something worth capturing in our little silver box.

LEANING TOWARDS THE SUN

When the sun comes out every tree seems to celebrate.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Camille turned fifty-three on June fourth.

And Stephanie, our friend in San Antonio, turned thirty-seven June eighth.  Both these pictures are self-portraits.

MEN AT WORK

Jimmy and Doug take a break from making biodiesel at the landfill.  Jimmy is wearing a hairnet that Bob and Trey brought back from a tour of the Tortilla Factory, one of the places their company goes to collect grease for making into Biodiesel

The offices are located in an old house with a spacious covered deck, fully equipped kitchen and even a fireplace.  Camille was able to successfully bake bread in the old oven one time on a work trip, but the second time she tried, the oven failed to heat.

JAMES TICKLES THE IVORIES

The crew is always on the lookout for good discards.  This piano was a great find, as was the park bench, above.  It really is amazing what Americans throw away.  Oh yes, and James is also enjoying his present from the Tortilla Factory.

THE GRASSLANDS

Early Saturday morning, June 9th, we drove north of Decatur, home to the nation's Guacamole festival, for a little hike on the grasslands.  The trails were set up for horseback riding and we were pleased to see lots of people camping out with their horses.

DEJA VU

We went back to the Elm Fork of the Trinity River for another hike along the Lake Ray Roberts Greenbelt on June 23rd.  On the left is the ravine leading down to the river and on the right, Camille hurries towards the bench they ate lunch at last time so she can dive into her sandwich.

THE BIRDS

A rustling in the trees made us look up to see a flock of turkey vultures.  Realizing we were probably moving too slow, we did the only rational thing - we ran away!

OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

We like to take walks in the undeveloped sector of our neighborhood and often see scissors-tailed flycatchers and a road runner.  Bob is probably smiling because he's enjoying himself, but it could also have something to do with the peak of hair Camille twisted up on top of her head.  After we made our customary loop, we drove down to the square for a walk around Historic Down Town Denton.  For more photos, with commentary, check out Exploring the Public Realm.

OUR GARDENS

Bob grew this beautiful eggplant in the gardens at work.  Meanwhile, the home gardens continue to flourish.  With all the rain we've had, we don't even have to water.  The tomatoes are coming on, as are the peppers and lavender.  The parsley, basil, oregano and chives are finally keeping up with our busy kitchen.

THE GOURDS

This was the second time we've seen this Austin band in concert and they were great.  How to describe their music? According to their website, "In a saucepan of slow roasts they have conjured tempo's, tango's, waltzes, zydeco, old timey, two step, lowgrooved, long winded, short tailed, tiny, phat, stompin gizmo's of tunes tripped out of lonely, solid teeth and wet green earth."

TWO HIGH STRING BAND

These guys hail from Texas, Pennsylvania and North Carolina and put on a good show.

PHIL PRITCHETT AND HIS FULL BAND

Also from Texas, these guys really rocked.  They bill themselves as a country band but they were more folkish and rockish, somewhere between Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.  And yes, the full band is really only three guys.  That's their joke.

THIS MONTH'S QUOTES:

We live in a world that has narrowed into a neighborhood before it has broadened into a brotherhood. - Lyndon B. Johnson

Seven years would be insufficient to make some people acquainted with each other, and seven days are more than enough for others. - Jane Austin

The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. - Muhammad Ali

Believe it or not, there's even more stuff going on in our brains at Plastic Farm Animals.
