A FEW DAYS CATCHING UP WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS IN COLORADO

August 13 - 19, 2007

VIETNAMESE TAKE OUT

Shirley and Camille select dinner in Shirley's sun room.  Shirley put us up for the night in Denver and we enjoyed the chance to catch up.  As we've noted before, she lives in a beautiful house filled with art, books and music in a great old neighborhood full of mature shade trees. The food, by the way, was delicious and we didn't have to go anywhere because they delivered it to Shirley's front door!

UP ON THE ROOF

Three views from the roof of Shirley's house.  The cottonwood next door at sunset.  Bob took a picture of Camille enjoying the crisp morning air from the roof early the next morning and this detail of the bricks which flank the domed ceiling of Shirley's living room, a signature feature of architect Eugene Groves.

THE BIRD'S NEST

Taking full advantage of our trip to Colorado, we decided to meet Camille's brother, Mike at the Bird's Nest Disc Golf Park in Arvada.  It was a little overgrown and therefore a challenge.  We often had to do a bit of reconnaissance before locating the pin.

AMY'S NEW LAPTOP

We delivered Amy's graduation present and Bob helped her set it up.  It's running the new Window's Vista and was therefore, a little unfamiliar.  Amy starts her Freshman year at San Diego State at the end of the month.

LAST STOP ON A BUSY DAY

After leaving Shirley's, playing golf with Mike, checking into the Bed and Breakfast, delivering Amy's computer, and helping Emily move, we met Mahlon, Molly, Emily, Amy and their friends Meagan and Jamie for dinner in  Boulder.  Everybody else's day was equally busy and so we were all happy to sit down and relax.  Meagan had just completed a tour of Europe and was happy to report that she got around quite nicely without a car there.  Her observations sparked lively conversation about restoring the passenger rail system in the US and toning down the volume and speed with which we live our lives in this country.

SELF PORTRAITS

Just for fun, we asked everyone at the table to take a picture of themselves and this is how those self portraits turned out.  From top left: Bob, Mahlon, Camille, Amy, Molly, Meagan, Jamie and Emily.

BEST FRIENDS

When these two interact, there is a fair amount of friendly trash talking.

YEE HAWRR!

Looks as if we may have spent too many months in Texas.  On our last day in Golden, Colorado we walked down to the creek path, where we spotted a small school of giant trout.  Bob just had to climb on one and had it been a bareback bronc, would have scored heavily for spurring the shoulders on the way out of the chute.

NORTH THROUGH BERTHOUD TO FORT COLLINS

We left Golden to spend the night with Rob and Sharyl and stopped at the Berthoud Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store along the way.  We had a nice visit with Sharon and Misty, and Camille picked up some 'new' clothes as well!  Rob and Sharyl pose with Mikayla.  Logan wasn't feeling well and got left out of the pictures.

YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHER

Mikayla took this photo of the four of us.  Nice job, Mikalya!

A GIRL AND HER DOG

Mikalya humors Schatzie's addiction to playing fetch.

ONE LAST GOODBYE

Camille said goodbye to the 'boys' ( Silver and Monte) before Bob whisked her off to Steamboat Springs.
