THE DUCK POND AT THE ARBORETUM IN AUSTIN, TEXAS

THE HINTERLANDS BEHIND THE RENAISSANCE

While Bob attended the Biodiesel Conference of Texas in the Renaissance Hotel, Camille was free to wander.  And wander she did.  Behind the Renaissance, to a small woods and down to a cute little duck pond.

THIS IS THE LIFE

In her three trips to the pond, Camille saw that the ducks and geese there have not much to do and all day to do it.  Basically, they preen and eat.

LEST WE GET TOO CARRIED AWAY

There is always a seedier side if you look hard enough for it and this is something Camille is quite good at.  There's no other way to say it, these were a couple of the ugliest ducks she'd ever seen!  Worse, they looked as if their wings had been clipped to keep them from straying from the pond.   And there was, of course garbage, as evidenced by this Reese's Peanut Butter Cup wrapper next to one of those adorable big, white geese.   Later that evening, when Camille told Kay Gonzalez about the ugly ducks, Kay said she and her husband call them "Nuclear Ducks."

IRRESISTIBLE

Now, who could resist this winsome creature?  He wanted a treat and was so sure Camille had one that he came up and pecked her on the toes as she was trying to catch the perfect photo.  Click on the picture in the middle for more detail.

MATES FOR LIFE

Geese mate for life and this pair seems quite content to hang out all day in the pond.
