A TRIP ON THE WAY BACK MACHINE

In which Bob and Camille step outside their front door to find themselves in the year 1910. The local Historical Society had gotten all dressed up to honor the 100 year old business district on our street.

LOOKING BACK IN TIME

It was a fine day for a reenactment and the actors did a wonderful job of staying in character.

ALL DRESSED UP

It sure seems like people wore a lot of clothes back then!  But that was before global warming, I guess.  Kids played with hoops and women wore hats with ostrich feathers in them.  The windows of our apartment are right above what used to be a bakery back then.

A CLASSY LOOK

I must say, this was a fetching costume.  I loved how the feathers flirted around this beautiful lady's face with every puff of breeze.

THE DOCTOR AND THE PHARMACIST

The doctor, on the right, had an office across the street and he lived in the hotel at the end of the block.  His best friend followed him west and ended up starting a pharmacy to fill prescriptions and sell sodas.  The livery stable on the next block kept a horse and buggy waiting at all times should the doctor need to rush off and attend to someone.

ANOTHER PAIR OF FRIENDS

These two fellows both ran shops on this street and were also friends who had come west together.  It wasn't difficult for David and Paul to pretend to be friends because they are, in fact friends in real life.  We learned that the Confectionery sold cigars, refreshments, peanuts, candy and (if you inquired) libations.

A HORSELESS CARRIAGE

The older cars still had buckboards and buggy whips, just in case the motor gave out and they had to hitch up to a real live horse.

PROGRESS

And so began the car culture with these innocent looking machines.  Over the next 100 years, there would come faster cars and  highways,  suburbs and malls; trucks to replace the railway system, air pollution, day care and cell phones to try and keep everyone connected.  Yep, the industrial age could have been a good thing but quickly turned into something completely out of control.  Sigh...
