Our Home Base at Cabo Pulmo

In which Bob, Camille, Kris, Avery, Heidi and John settle in for five days of laid-back tropical living.

November 4-9, 2006

CASA CHUPAROSA

Bob, Camille and John stayed in this little house.  Chuparosa means humingbird.

OUTDOOR SHOWER

Behind this wall is our outdoor shower which was stocked with fluffy towels of all sizes.  One of Camille's best memories of the trip was showering under the full moon the first evening.

THATCH

The roofs are all pole and thatch, bolted and tied in a mesmerizing pattern.

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED

The proprietors of Cabo Pulmo have taken care to outfit the accommodations with beautiful wall hangings, sculptures, fresh flowers and everything anyone would need to feel completely at home.

BIRD WATCHING ON THE DECK

We quickly made a routine of taking coffee and binoculars to the top of the roof at dawn.

Also on the deck were a windsock and water in a Rotoplas tank.  This came in handy for us when a water main had to be repaired, leaving us without water from our taps for a day.

CASA CAT

It seemed every casa came with a cat.  This one was kind enough to come visit only occasionally and to stay outside the house.

DOMESTIC BLISS

Casa Chuparosa came with a fully outfitted kitchen and one of the comfiest beds we've ever slept on.  Everyone brought food and we took turns cooking so that we only had to eat out twice.

CASA DE LA LUNA

John models the Sombrero Kris bought for Avery in Todos Santos in the great room of Casa de la Luna or house of the moon.  It was appropriate that our stay happened to occur during a full moon.  Kris, Avery and Heidi stayed in this casa and because it was bigger than Casa Chuparosa, we ate most of our meals here.

KITTY BAD CRUMBLE

This pretty kitty was quite bold and, fortunately 'belonged" to the house we weren't sleeping in.  She insisted on opening the screen door to let herself inside.  She would sprawl out like this on the mat in front of the kitchen sink, making kitchen chores, well - a chore.  When moved out of the way, she often retaliated with a quick bite to our feet.  We were all more tolerant than we perhaps should have been because she was so beautiful.  One morning Kris even woke up to find her sleeping on the pillow next to her!

THE FISH TACO BAR

Life doesn't get any better than this!  The taco bar was only a short walk down the beach from our Casas.  Camille and Bob chose to indulge in a couple of beers rather than in the fish tacos.

John and Avery stuck to water as they waited for their tacos.

Kris and Heidi relax after a demanding day in the sun.

Heidi inspects the translucent window in a Mexican dollar.

AT THE END OF THE DAY

By the end of our stay, the group had amassed this impressive shell collection outside Casa de la Luna, many of which Kris toted home to use in the creation of wall hangings.
