CROSS COUNTRY ROAD TRIP – PART ONE
Bob and Shaun drive from Philadelphia to Marina DelRay
January 5–8, 2006
DAY ONE
Langhorne, Pennsylvania
Here’s Shaun and the Jetta at the dealer in Langhorne, PA. Langhorne is where Bert & Ernie live!
Odometer at the start was at 10 miles.
We followed the sales rep to the fuel station for our first fill up – on them!
Central Pennsylvania, Thursday afternoon, Shaun ahead. This is a view I would become accustomed to over the next five days!
DAY TWO – Western Pennsylvania to Kansas City
West Virginia
We left the hotel at about 3am in order to make Kansas City. This rest stop in West Virginia really was this blurry at about 4:30am.
Ohio
Central Ohio, we saw a little snow and a lot of gray.
Indiana
Indiana – This guy brought his beverages in LARGE quantities.
Illinois
Illinois – That cross is really tall.
Illinois, a large gathering of geese and ducks, thousands.
Missouri
Missouri – KC (and sleep) are nearly in sight. We covered over 900 miles on Day 2.
DAY THREE – Kansas City,
Kansas to Berthoud, Colorado
Kansas
On the left is Shaun, his sister, and his brother. On the right is the dog, low slung and not built for speed.
Kansas City, Kansas – Imprisoned by billboards….
…and beached “Riverboat Casinos”.
Topeka, Kansas – The capitol dome and downtown.
This is where the plains begin – uphill all the way to Berthoud.
COLORADO
Colorado at last – a vegan meal and my own damn bed!
DAY FOUR
Berthoud, Colorado to Gallup, New Mexico
Cookie, seeing us off.
We washed the cars at our local carwash.
The Jetta was clean and ready to head south.
Shaun in my rearview – an unaccustomed sight.
The mountain storm that forced us to go south.
Denver – a nice bright day in the Mile High City.
Outside of Trinidad, Colorado.
New Mexico
Descending Raton Pass into New Mexico
Outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico – one of Camille’s old stomping grounds.
