The perfect Guest House for welcoming Amy to Africa, Osda House in Accra offered us a spacious suite surrounded by beautiful plants with plenty of heartfelt hospitality.

AND AMY MAKES THREE
Camille, Bob and Amy in front of Osda House the morning after her big flight across the Atlantic. The anticipation of Amy’s arrival was nearly unbearable. As Camille posted in a blog entry titled Amy: “Soon enough, Amy’s smile appeared, bright and travel weary, like sunshine bursting through a cloudy sky. And then we were three. Three Armantrouts in Ghana, here to taste the flavor of Bob’s childhood in Accra, to get a feel for the elements that helped shape who he is. With this first smile, my dream had become real.” Read more here.
A GREEN THUMB
The owners of Osda House, Yaa Dorothy and Seth, have green thumbs. This is the main entrance where guests are greeted by a large, flowering “Crown of Thorns” and happy hedge of Croton.
GOOD COMPOST MAKES GOOD GARDENS
The three of us were touring the beautiful gardens when we noticed Dorothy heading behind the house with a pan of fruit peelings. Camille had a pan of banana, mango and pineapple peelings in the refrigerator and asked if we could add it in. “Of course!” Dorothy said. And this is what happened – we threw the compost into the hole, Dorothy covered it with leaves and Camille sprinkled a little water on it. Composting done correctly is just this easy!
EYE CANDY
The gardens are lush, inviting and at times, invigorating. Yellow Cannas and Red Hibiscus are two eye-popping tropicals that make your heart race.
MANGO SEASON
Mangos are just coming back in season as you can see by the heavy fruit hanging on the tree behind Osda House. Both Bob and Amy are happy to provide a sense of scale.
CROTON
Camille loves the look of Croton and Osda House is surrounded with spectacular specimens. Behind Camille is a nice Cordyline or what we called Ti plants in Hawaii.
