Camille woke one day in June with Rose Fever, passing it to Haruka and Bob and inspiring us to take a stab at growing hybrid tea roses organically. – June, 2015
RALEIGH RECONNAISSANCE
Haruka and Camille drove up to to the big city early one pretty morning to get ideas and inspiration from the Raleigh Municipal Rose Garden.
ROMANTIC
The garden features perfumed air and shaded benches that we hear tell from some of our friends is the perfect spot for a first kiss.
DROP-DEAD PRETTY
Hybrid tea roses manifest beauty.
BRINGING OUT THE BEST
The intoxicating aromas bring out the best in everyone. Camille and Haruka soon found themselves enveloped in happy halos.
WELL-TENDED
Although we did not see anyone around, it is obvious that these plants are receiving the utmost in care.
LONG STEMS
One of the hallmarks of a great rose is a long, straight stem.
FINAL GLANCE
As the heat of the day began to creep up on us, we took one last look around and climbed the steps up to Christine for the drive home.
WITHERSPOON ROSES
We discovered a great place to buy roses that will flourish in our climate, Whitherspoon Rose Culture in Durham. Their show garden rivals the Raleigh Rose Garden.
YUM!
Every kind of rose, from hybrid teas to climbers!
A TOUGH DECISION
It was hard to pick just a few, but we had done our homework and were after Chrysler Imperial (red), Double Delight (crimson and cream) and Stainless Steel (white) – all hybrid teas noted for their fragrance.
TROUTS FARM ROSES
They are still in pots but putting off one intoxicating bloom after another. On the left is Chrysler Imperial with its strong damask rose smell and Fragrant Cloud, bought online and noted for its strong, sweet and spice rose aroma on the right.
DOUBLE DELIGHT
Double Delight, with a delicious strong spicy rose fragrance and noted for it’s disease resistance, threatens to steal the show.
