Chestnuts, paper flowers, one epic birthday party, an unforgettable wedding, the best day ever at the State Fair, friends, food, flowers and a Halloween present for Blanche – October was a month to write home about!
IT’S CHESTNUT TIME AGAIN
It was an especially good year for chestnuts and we gratefully accepted Lyle’s generous gifts from his trees at home and at work.
OCTOBER AT THE OH-SO-PEACHY
This month at work, Bob harvested ginger and Matt and Dana got hitched, among other things. See what we had going on at work here: Autumn at the Plant
PAPER FLOWERS
Claire, Camille, Haruka and Mary Beth got together to make wedding flowers for Dana. We enjoyed talking and working the colorful tissue paper, and the hours flew.
SUNNY DAY
There were lots of sunny days in October and they brought on a new flush of blooms and pollinator action.
BUDDHELIA AND AZALEA
The butterfly bush was rife with butterflies and a lone azalea bloom popped out.
CUTTING FLOWERS
The hydrangea got into the act and ended up in a vase with the rudbeckia.
VEGGERONI
Meat alternative for the gluten enthusiast, veggeroni is a staple in our house. Inexpensive, easy to make, versatile and delicious, we bake two pounds every ten days or so and eat it cold or fried, in sandwiches, on salads and in stir frys.

ROSE GARDEN
Bob sunk the first rose, Fragrant Cloud into the ground after picking out a large rock. We water our roses in blood and sweat.
TWELVE AND A HALF POUNDS
The first sweet potato harvest yielded twelve and a half pounds of vitamin-C rich goodness.
PETER PAN PARTY
On October 17th, we got dressed up and walked through the woods with our friends for an epic party. Find out more on: Tami’s Peter Pan Party
BEST DAY EVER
As if our month wasn’t already over-the-top fantastic, we took a day off from work and went to the North Carolina State Fair. Bob discovered a ride with his namesake, Camille saw the tiniest horse in the world – alive. We ran into neighbors Helen and Judy, ate real greasy stuff, saw a nine hundred pound pumpkin and so, so, so much more. Check out: NC State Fair
BOB’S DORIAN GRAY
Decades in the making, Bob was finally mature enough to stage a photo of himself mirroring a picture of Phillip K Dick that showed up in Rolling Stone Magazine in the ’70’s. Back when color printers were a novelty, our friend Ned made color copies of this print and gave one to Bob. Bob framed the print and has hung in in every home he’s lived in since, usually in the boudoir. To Bob in his twenties, the man in the picture looked old and yet the image was familiar enough that Bob thought he might one day resemble it. Thus it has come to pass.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Blanche gets that Halloween costume she’s been asking for. She’s been a little jealous of Spot for some time now.
