A visit to the Museum of Life and Sciences in Raleigh with Zoila and the kids – January 20, 2016
FIRST TIME VISITORS
While Alisa and Chris were exploring Wales, Camille and Zoila borrowed their son and daughters for a field day. We all fell in love with this museum. It had everything and all of it fun!
Noah leaps over bars of light. Zoila uses her shadow to “catch” a light rain.
MORE INTERACTIVE
We all enjoyed the obstacle course. It helped get our blood pumping on a cold day.
Many of the wildlife habitats featured cameras which you could use to find the animals. Eden swiveled the camera behind her to see Camille.
FARM ANIMALS
We found alpacas at the petting zoo and Zoila found her farmer’s market on the side of a painted cow.
DINOSAURS
Another good mixture of learning and fun.
Camille and Zoila and a couple of prehistoric pals.
Eden looks at a dino mom protecting her nest of eggs, Amie and Camille stand beneath a brontosaurus and Noah poses with a Styracosaurus.
BUGS
Eden with tarantula, Noah with cockroach tower. Some like insects more than others as shown by Zoila’s reaction.
BUTTERFLY HOUSE
We began peeling off our winter clothes soon after entering the steamy butterfly house. Camille was happy to see caligo memnon, the owl butterfly (on the right of the plate, the big brown butterfly with the eye) because it reminded her of our neighbors Jan and Tieneke at Green Hills Butterfly Ranch in Belize.
VOLUNTEERING KEEPS YOU YOUNG
Eighty-three year old volunteer Ron proves the point.
LEMURS
We had a lot of fun skipping our way towards the lemur exhibit, singing “We’re off to see the lemurs” to the tune of “Off to see the Wizard.”
Amie communes from the other side of the glass.
A FULL DAY
Satiated, we made our way back to the car.
TREATS
Zoila treated us to hot cocoa. Camille sprung for some mood rings.
THE WAY HOME
On the way home, the kids passed the time by singing an old road trip favorite. Listen carefully and you will hear their sweet voices.
