Lucky us! After more than two years away, Jason and Haruka returned for a visit – August 7-14
TWO AND A HALF YEARS
Two and a half years evaporated—poof—the moment we saw our friends, Jason and Haruka. It was as if they’d just walked over from next door after we hadn’t seen them for a couple of days.
GIRLY ACTION
Camille, Haruka, and Amy made sure to squeeze in an early morning a walk at Jordan Lake Dam. Photos courtesy of Haruka.
SAME AS IT EVER WAS
With good friends, all you have to do is get next to each other and the fun begins to flow.
POTLUCK
Speaking of fun, we got a subset of friends together for potluck at Troutsfarm. Matt, Dana, and Gael were able to make it. Along with Shelley, Amanda, and Caroline.
SPOT IN HIS HAPPY PLACE
Spot had been feeling sidelined since we put him on stall rest, but we made it up to him with new friends Carolyn, Caroline, Amanda, and Will.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN
Nineteen adults, four children, food, drink, and plenty of reminiscing.

HOME COOKING
The next night, sated with social goodness, the four of us chilled out. Jason and Haruka gave us each a tenugui, a Japanese cloth suitable for wrapping everything from presents to food to heads. Bob’s tenugui is painted with hydrangeas and Camille’s (not shown) features bitter melon. After months of battling rabbits, we managed to haul in a mature crop of soybeans, a huge stainless steel bowl of them. We ate fried onions and edamame until we could not suffer another pod and shelled the rest for another day. After our appetites returned, we sat down to hasselback potatoes and Kentucky friend tofu. WAH
Last day pictures in which we all smiled bravely.
