A nourishing last month of the decade, rich in friends, heavy with travel, in which Bob eked out leisure time on the road, we submerged ourselves in family bliss at Tyler and Emily’s with Amy, Molly, and Shane, we drove around in a cool car, and, as always, dined extravagantly.
WARM FRIENDSHIPS
Stuart stopped by one sunny afternoon with a truck full of bedding plants. We chose a large, Lenten Rose and settled on the front porch for laughs and conversation.
ON THE ROAD
The ups and downs of business travel may include airport napping and art perusal. More photos of Bob’s work travels here: On the Road
WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU PUMPKINS
Make pumpkin tarts! We had a bumper crop of Seminole pumpkins this year, so Camille borrowed Debbee’s pumpkin custard recipe and made graham cracker crust pumpkin tarts.
COLORADO FAMILY VISIT
Bob flew through Denver on his way home from Canada, met Camille at the airport, and we stayed with Emily and Tyler for a couple of nights to meet baby Evelyn. Shane and Molly drove down for Sunday brunch.
Amy drove in from Cheshire, Oregon with her dog, Osha. Bob rented a White Dodge Charger which came in handy for early morning coffee runs. We made good use of the lake park, an easy mile walk from the house.
FOREVER FRIENDS
Ned came over for Emily and Tyler’s annual Games Night and we used the opportunity to take a traditional “cool old guys in sunglasses” photo. More pictures at Colorado Family Visit.
ONE GOOD TRADITION DESERVES ANOTHER
We all threw down a traditional shot of tequila at Mahlon’s new apartment.
CHRISTMAS DINNER
It might seem like a lot of work for two people, but fussing over holiday meals is so, so worth it. From the top: Brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce, Quorn meatless roast, roasted carrots, onions, and purple sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, chestnut sausage dressing, and onion gravy.

THIS MONTH’S QUOTES:
“We must work in concert and on several fronts, and we must do it now. For who among us wants to face harsh reproach from our grandchildren: ‘You knew it was happening, and you did nothing.'” – Sir David Attenborough
“There are a lot of fundamental problems with existence, but among the most pressing is that you need to feed yourself three times a day, basically every day, for, like, 80 years.” – Amanda Mull, from The Instant Pot Will Not Solve All of Life’s Problems
“Having kids did not fix me. I was not somehow more whole, less botched-up, or more certain just because I had a kid….I was still me, with all my holes and problems and questions – only now I was also exhausted and had a lot more laundry to do.” – Jerusalem Jackson Greer.
