BOB
AND CAMILLE AT HOME ON MAUI

ITEY NITE

Starting the month with a
strong dose of Italian food.  We’ve nicknamed this menu choice, Itie
Nite in remembrance of the movie “Breaking Away” in which a father
accuses his wife of cooking “Itey food” as in I-talian.  He
thinks that the zucchini on his plate is a sympathetic gesture by his wife towards their
teenaged son who suddenly begins behaving as if he were born in Italy
instead of Indiana.   Camille sits on the couch, hovering over the
fresh bread, salad and pasta with red sauce.

LINE  UP THOSE CHORES

First we bottled beer on
December 6.

And then Cookie washed the
car.

AND OFF WE WENT – TO A WEDDING
RECEPTION

Beth, Cynthia and Camille sat
at the same table.  Camille is pleased to have seated herself in front
of the little horse party favor.

TWO TRIED AND TRUE FAVORITES:
FRIED BREADFRUIT and MACARONI AND CHEESE

Camille fries up a pan of
sweet, ripe breadfruit on December 11th after a trip to the Farmer’s
Market.  Notice the piece of breadfruit in her left hand.  One of
the privileges of standing over a hot frying pan is sampling rights.  We also bought some tender, young zucchini to have baked,
with macaroni and cheese a few nights later.

CHINESE PORCELAIN

These are just a few of our
many knick knacks.  For a look at some more, go to Knick
Knacks.

THE LEFTOVER QUEEN

Someday Camille is going to
write a cookbook explaining the magic of turning leftovers into a whole new
experience.  Very little of our food ends up in the compost pile.
We believe that anything can be transformed into another meal.  Here
Cookie takes broccoli from the Pacific Biodiesel Christmas Party, stale
bread, cheese, and a mushroom sauce and ends up with a bubbling casserole.

BOB’S WORLD

Bob has two views of the
world; the one outside the front door and the one on his computer desktop.

SLUDGE

.

Part of the job at Pacific
Biodiesel is emptying tankers like this one into the sludge pit for
composting.  The scary part about this operation is climbing up onto
the tanker without slipping down into the warm sludge below.

These two views are down into
the hole from atop
the tanker and inside the belly of the tanker.  Bob got the second
picture by holding the camera down into the hole.  It is amazing how
clean the stainless steel lining inside the tanker stays.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Bob makes (soy) bacon, tomato
and avocado sandwiches for breakfast after opening presents from Mom and
Dad, John and various co-workers.  Camille revels over a hand towel
with embroidered reindeer named Donner, Dominique Lapierre’s “A
Thousand Suns – Witness to History,” two solid milk chocolate Walleyes,
two tangelos, a tin of shortbread cookies and two pairs of chopsticks from
Thailand.

Later, we got Mahlon on the
phone and drank a shot of tequila with him.  This is a non-negotiable
ritual for us when the three of us talk by phone.  Camille has her ear piece
in and is listening to Bob and Mahlon talk while she pours.  Her phone
is clipped to her shorts.
