BOB
AND CAMILLE AT HOME ON MAUI
LET’S GET SERIOUS
Camille punches dough on
February 22. You have to hit it hard to knock out all the air.
Twice a week we have a meal of soup, fresh garden greens and bread warm from
the oven.
Bob spreads a spinach, onion,
garlic and chard mixture with olives, tomatoes and feta over a pan of phyllo
to make Greek Pizza on February 28. Almost every meal we make begins
with onion, garlic and olive oil and incorporates chard and other greens
from the garden.
THE PEACE EFFORT CONTINUES
People all over the world,
including Maui are standing up for what they believe in in an effort to stem
the tide of continued violence. We joined more than 1500 pacifists on
February 16th for a group photo in support of peace. The photo was
made into postcards and mailed to World Leaders. For more information
about Maui Peace Action and the Peace Portrait, click on http://www.mauipeace.org/.
We have added this counter as
a means to remind us all of the continuing toll our future tax dollars are
financing. Remember that about 50% of Iraqis are under age 15 and that as
far as we all know, Saddam and his countrymen have never attacked an
American other than the participants of Gulf War I.
PEACE AND LOVE IN ROME
In December, Camille’s
Brothers Jim and Joe journeyed to Rome with Mom Illo to see the Holy
See. Pope John Paul II, age 82 graciously made himself
available. We wonder what Mom is whispering to the revered leader.
On February 23rd, the
Pope denounced war as a way to resolve conflict. “We Christians
in particular are called upon to be sentinels of peace,” John Paul
said, calling on Catholics to dedicate their fasting on Ash Wednesday, March
5, for the cause of peace. Italians and many other Europeans oppose
war, even if waged under the aegis of the United Nations.
WHALE DAY PARADE
Once again, Maui Recycling
Service joins the Whale Day Parade February 15 to promote renewable fuel
with their vegetable oil powered vehicles. Shaun leads the charge in
his Volkswagen Golf and Bob follows in his Ford 450 Flat Bed. We also
provided free recycling for the event and stood at a table all day talking
with people about zero waste and renewable energy.
ISLAND STYLE
My Favorite float featured a
water gun toting mermaid and two laughing hula guys.
BLUE SKIES
February 9th was another
spectacular day. We are surrounded by beauty up here in Olinda and
seldom hear a human voice. We do, however hear pheasants, chickens,
cardinals, finches, mynahs, Japanese Bush Warblers, Melodious Laughing
Thrushes, chickens, a peacock, three kinds of doves, and an occasional dog.
FAR-FALLE OUT!
Keeping in the Italian spirit
of things, we have begun making our own pasta. After mixing, kneading
and rising the dough, we rolled and sliced it. Then we pinched the
rectangles in the middle and viola – Farfalle or Bow Ties! A
mushroom sauce, greens and garlic bread rounded out this meal on February 2.
