BOB AND CAMILLE AT HOME ON MAUI
JEWELRY BOX
This may be the last birthday present Camille receives for turning 50. Bob had this box custom made from Walnut and Che Chen Burl by Emily Palm of Petoskey, Michigan. Che Chen is known in Belize as Black Poison Wood because the bark of this tree will cause a terrible rash. It is a beautiful wood and the burl, with its crazy grain, is spectacular.
JULY FOURTH RODEO

A DAY OFF
We had Inter-dependence Day off and used it to go for a little drive. We ended up hanging around at the new playground in Haiku.
ANOTHER BIRTHDAY PRESENT
Pam and Shaun invited us for dinner on July 10th to celebrate Camille’s Birthday. Here Bob and Shaun settle in for a few beers to help them solve the problems of the world. For more photos of this very special gift, click on Birthday Party.
WHACK A DOO
Bob clips the hibiscus hedge beside our home, giving us an additional three feet of walking space between the front and back yard.
CONSPIRING
On the 18th, Shaun and Ralph share a secret. Bob and Shaun had put up decorations at Hapa’s in Kihei to welcome Ralph Nadar to Maui. Inspired by Ralph, Shaun decided to run for the Senate on the Green Party ticket in an effort to promote election reform.
WHY DO WE NEED ELECTION REFORM?
I’ll let Howard Zinn answer that:
“Money dominates the whole electoral process, with huge sums being expended by both Democrats and Republicans. Candidates need to amass enormous sums of money in order to have a chance at winning, and those sums do not come from ordinary people; they come from big-business interests. So it’s not a free election in that sense.”
“It’s also not a free election in the sense of people having the freedom to choose whichever candidate they want, because just two parties dominate the entire system. Other parties don’t have a chance. ‘Third-party’ candidates are not even allowed to appear in televised presidential debates. [snip] It’s hardly a free choice.”

WHAT, MORE PRESENTS?!
Thanks to Mom and Dad, this party isn’t over, yet!
UNWRAPPED
And here is what was in three of those pretty packages; a solar-powered landscaping light, a copy of “Ma and Pa Kettle at Home” circa 1954, and a cute potted plant ornament featuring roses and a big bumble bee. We’ll place the light outside with our bunny and add the bumble bee to our potted jade plant. We all watched Ma and Pa’s antics with dinner. We saved the other two presents to open with Molly.
HERE’S AMY

IN THE BACKYARD
Bob and Amy satisfy the annual backyard photo requirement.
On the last day of our visit, Bob generally takes the obligatory annual portraits. Amy looks Surprised, doesn’t she?
Not really!
At some point, all women learn the hand on the hip gesture which Amy demonstrates here.
I know – it’s hard to keep a straight face, isn’t it?
HEY, WHAT?
Hello, it’s Molly! We put Amy on a plane for Denver on July 29th and picked up Molly in the same spot the next day! Now, Molly gets to play the only child in our oh-so-adult lives.
