WALKING THE TRAILS
The pause that refreshes

NATURE BRINGS OUT THE ARTIST IN US
It’s hard to resist the beauty and mystery of nature. Here’s a picture of earth, sky and water reminiscent of M C Escher’s unforgettable “Three Worlds.”
SOMEONE’S BEEN PLAYING GOD

We’ve been hearing the peepers, their sharp calls stopping short the minute we reached their anti-peeping boundries. And this is what they’ve been up to – making and fertilizing eggs. Creating fascinating globs of translucent embryos. Playing god and making new life. Just like the rest of us.
LINKING THE FIELDS
Finding it difficult to push a full wheelbarrow from the farm to the asparagus field, our neighbors replaced the original bridge with a wider one.
LOBLOLLY PINES

There is an abundance of Loblolly pines (Pinus taeda) in these Southern woods. They are the Geminis of the tree world, fanciful and stately at the same time.
RUST NEVER SLEEPS

Camille is drawn to the forbidden abandoned shed in the woods like a cicada to a rusted hasp.
WALKS ARE ENERGIZING

A walk in the woods is energizing, especially when one takes the time to sit on a log across Stinking Creek and absorb negative ions. Walks can be especially energizing when we are startled by an unexpected sight like this giant tangle of vine and dead branch which fell across the trail during a wind storm.
WEAVING A TANGLED WEB

The vines range from delicate strands to rigid ropes as wide as your fist.

They take down trees and keep on growing.
HANGING ON

At this time of year, the only trees with leaves are the Beeches. When their Spring leaves begin to emerge, the old, dead leaves will fall off.
