CITY
ISLAND 1962 and WASHINGTON DC 2011
Camille relaxes in
the back yard of her childhood home on City Island in the Bronx with her
neighbor, Theresa. And 50 years later, here she is again, after enjoying
her birthday dinner out on the town with Bob, Ned and Jessica in Washington DC.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
CAMILLE
Camille turned 57
on June 4th and took her obligatory self portrait to commemorate the passage of
time.
NEW YORK
Nothing like a
trip down memory lane to celebrate one’s birthday! Bob and Camille spent
the first two days of June in New York, visiting some of Camille’s childhood
haunts and many new places as well. More photos here: New York City – June 2011
AMERICAN MUSEUM
OF NATURAL HISTORY
What a great time
we had in New York! Including a few hours well spent in one of Camille’s
favorite museums. More pictures on this page: American Museum of Natural History
BROOKSIDE
GARDENS
On Camille’s
birthday, Bob and Ned whisked her over to Brookside Gardens for a long walk
through the most beautiful gardens! Check out: A birthday stroll through Brookside Gardens
WASHINGTON
DC AND CHINCOTEAGUE
One night we were
celebrating Camille’s birthday with dinner out on the town with Jessica and Ned
and the next day we were messing around with small equines. Lots more
pictures here: Annual Trip Continued – June 2011
PARTY ON
THE LAWN
Back at home, our
neighbors made a dance party on the lawn using a projector and a Phish
webcast. Haruka dances. Kome watches. Amy and Garth eat.
There was hooping and story telling and even Linus came over to do a little
dancing!
SOLAR
THERMAL CLASS
Bob attended a
solar thermal class and learned a little more about renewable energy.
HAILEY
Camille’s newest
passion is trail riding with Peg on her hose, Hailey, shown here in her
crocheted fly veil, standing in the creek with Simon and Peg in the
background. More photos of Hailey, Simon and Peg here: Horse Album
PHISH
We always look
forward to the fun of a Phish concert at Walnut Creek. It’s such a great
venue and Phish draws all our friends – Amy, Scott, Jeremy, Jason, Haruka, John,
Bob. Thad and Garth. And Camille, behind the camera.
DANCE
PARTY
Jason and Jeremy
obviously enjoyed the music.
ROOT STOCK
Bob grew a lot
more onions and garlic this year and has been curing them in racks in the house
and garage. His potato yield is also incredible. This is one day’s
harvest of those tasty Red Thumb fingerlings and a few other varieties up in the
top left corner from another day. The okra is also beginning to bear
fruit.
A TODDLER
IN OUR MIDST
Next door
neighbor, Linus has begun ambling about and is curious about everything.
Water is fun to touch and zebras are great to carry around.
ON THE
SPOT
John and Jeremy
were in town for a string of Phish concerts so they got to pose with Spot and
Jenny joined us for potluck one evening and made Spot’s acquaintance as well.
CHATHAM
MARKETPLACE BOARD AND PROSPECTIVE INTERN
Bob hosted a board
retreat at Trouts Farm this month, nearly overwhelming Spot with the sheer
dynamic energy of the Chatham Marketplace crew. Jim was in town exploring
the possibility of interning with Piedmont Biofuels and we expect to see him
back.
AND THAT’S
NOT THE END OF IT
Yes, our place is
a busy one and that’s a good thing for Spot with his high social quotient.
He also got to meet Soojin and Diane this month, too!
LINUS AT
ONE
Linus turned one
in June and Spot couldn’t believe how fast he’s growing.
THIS MONTH’S QUOTES:
“The problem solving-monkey
must engage the world with both mind and body to feel the spark of his best
nature.” – Joe Bageant from his book Rainbow Pie
“Just like a parking meter
will never work like a jukebox, the music of gun barrels will never quite sound
like democracy.” – heard on National Public Radio July 15, 2011
