WEEKEND GETAWAY TO NAGS HEAD

WEEKEND
GETAWAY TO NAGS HEAD

August 12 – 14

AHHHHHHHHHH!

For most of us,
but especially those who grew up on the coast, a trip to the shore is balm to
the soul! Bob got us a hotel room on the beach for some much needed rest and
relaxation and enjoy a couple of nights of music on Nags Head.

HAPPY
CAMPERS

Bob and Camille
visiting Garth, Amy, Haruka and Jason at their campsite.

Our cute little
tent doubles as a spare bedroom at home when necessary.

Cookie cub
photographer lines up the group shot.

THE
ATLANTIC

She’s just as
beautiful as ever – all sand, foam and
salt water.  The gazebo was a nice place to sit and wait for the rest of
the group to catch up before we walked down to the beach and jumped into the
waves.  When the full moon came up, it rose directly over the gazebo.

SAND FENCE

Sand fence keeps
the sand from drifting too wildly and doubles as a place to hang your sunglasses
and perhaps leave them behind.  It would be great if we had sand fences
inside our brains to keep the thoughts from drifting too wild.

SAFETY
FIRST

Lifeguard stands
remind Camille of her Summer childhood spent on the beach.  We were surprised
to see grackles hanging out on the beach.  There must have been enough spilled
chips and cheetos to keep them interested.  This algae smothered fence also
caught our eye.  It is emblazoned with the warning “Danger Deep Hole Stay Clear.”
Funny thing to see on a beach!

SHORE
SCENES

A vacant lifeguard
stand with seagulls, chairs and beach umbrellas looking out to sea and soaring
pelicans in mostly groups of even numbers.
Yep – that’s what we saw!

PACKING IT
UP

Bob packs like no
one else.  And then we drove west across the scary bridge towards home.

OUTER
BANKS BREWING STATION

The real reason we
came – to see Keller Williams play two nights in this cool brewery.  We
snapped this picture on our way out of town.

JOCKEYS
RIDGE SAND DUNE

We stopped at
Jockey’s Ridge State Park on our way home to look at the tallest active sand
dune system in the eastern United States

A LITTLE
EXERCISE

There’s nothing
like a walk uphill in sand to tone up those calf muscles!  We took a little
hike to gaze upon the enormous sand dune above.

GROUNDED

Haruka lost her
feet in the sand.  We were all so relaxed after our two day getaway, we
didn’t want to leave!

HOLY COW!

This is udderly
ridiculous!

TOBACCO

This was the best
shot we got of a tobacco field as we buzzed by on the highway.  Tobacco
leaves are beautiful – very large and a nice bright yellowish green color.
