THANKSGIVING
IN MONCURE
November 24, 2011
PRE-DINNER
Garth and Amy
prepare to fill their plates at 3:10pm while Shane carved a chicken. Gabe’s
sweet potato casserole beckons.
GROUP
EFFORT
This delicious meal
was a group effort! Bob roasted two tofurkys with carrots, potatoes, garlic and
onions, Garth grew sweet potatoes which Molly spiced up and roasted, Shane
roasted a chicken, Camille made Nana’s chestnut dressing and gravy, everyone
shelled pecans, Amy baked pecan pies and stuffed pumpkins, Gabe cooked a sweet
potato and pecan casserole, Greg brought a huge pan of strawberry cobbler. Bob
and Camille did the mashed potatoes and Amy and Camille made roasted broccoli.
Everything but the tofurky, white potatoes and canned cranberry sauce were
locally grown, including the chestnuts!
LUCKY US
Molly and Amy
anticipate the first bites of their Thanksgiving meal. At dinner, we took turns
talking about what we are thankful for, including family, friends, local food,
great weather and the fact that people are finally out in the streets protesting
the injustices of our current socio-economic structure.
ALL THIS
AND A WALK TOO?
Thanksgiving isn’t
complete without a walk between dinner and dessert. So off we went!
THE WHOLE
GANG
There were nine of
us at the dinner table this year: Garth, Amy, Molly, Shane, Greg, Bob, Gabe,
Peter and Camille (behind the lens.)
ART
AND MYSTERY
Bob closes the
elaborate gate to the asparagus field. Peter ponders the meaning of WiFi
equipment in the woods.
