BLAST FROM THE
PAST

 MUSHROOM
MEADOW, SWITZERLAND  1975

Happy Birthday,
Bob! This month’s blast from the past was taken when Bob was only seventeen
years old.

JILL AND
ANDY’S WEDDING

We started Bob’s
birthday month out at Jill and Andy’s wedding.  Jill’s mother and father
walked her down the aisle on a picture perfect day.  Half an hour later,
they were man and wife and came triumphantly back town the aisle together.

PRELIMINARIES

Tami signs in
while one of our gifts, a 12-pack of the Mountain Dew looms over the guest
register.  Bob bought this original recipe edition of Mountain Dew with
Jill and Andy in mind while we were in New Bern last month. Camille joined the
guest procession behind Matt and Dana.

OUR
FRIENDS

A fair number of
our friends shared this beautiful day with us, including Noah, Scott, Rachel,
Sage, Sherri, PJ, and Jim.  Click on the photo to view a larger file.
Chris, Jeremy and Lynette were in fine form in the photo on the right.

YEARS GONE
BY

We were captivated
by these photos of Jill and Andy as youngsters, so Bob captured them with his
camera.  Jill and Andy were only fourteen in the photo on the left!

KATE AND
BART’S WEDDING

Kate and Bart were
married the same day and although we attended, we didn’t take any
pictures.  Fortunately, our friend Jessica did.  You can see her
glorious work on her blog at Kate
& Bart – Adventure Buddies for Life!

AROUND THE
HOUSE

Camille is loving
her new laundry line and Bob’s garden continues to flourish.

NEW
NEIGHBOR

Maggie has moved
into the neighborhood and is a welcome addition.  Spot liked her right off
as did the rest of us!  Maggie is enrolled in the Natural Chef Program at
CCCC and has taken Potluck up a notch.  She made gnocchi for potluck
September 23rd and it was delicious!

ALL ABOUT
THE SUN

Lyle and Bob
picked up a discarded solar thermal panel which may come in handy one day.
Bob took this photo of a solar pathfinder at Central Carolina Community College.

HOLY
CACTUS JUICE!

Neighbors Fred and
Reda shared their cactus fruits with us and Bob made a brilliant colored sweet
syrup.

ANOTHER
THURSDAY, ANOTHER POTLUCK OASIS

Potluck night is a
welcome oasis in our busy weeks!  Getting together with our neighbors to
share a meal never fails to refresh.  Rachel and Scott always brings Linus
and he seems to enjoy the community, too.  McCayne liked his Che Guevara
onsie on September 2nd.

We had lots to
celebrate
September 23rd with
the brightest
autumnal
equinox in over a decade and Bob’s birthday just around the corner, so
Bob
got a little Crokinole going with Jennie, Jeremy and Maggie.  Shaine
couldn’t resist giving Bob a pair of horns.

BIRTHDAY

WATER
FEATURE

We got some big
rains the last week of the month and Bob and Jason decided to see how the water
was flowing in the driveway next door.  Not so good was the answer.
It looks like the culvert has collapsed.  Rather than a flow, there was a
pond and a small waterfall.

THIS MONTH’S QUOTES:

“To anyone who is paying
attention, things look doomed. Fortunately for American capitalism, nobody is
paying attention.” – Joe Bageant from Waltzing
at the Doomsday Ball

“The economists have got it
mostly wrong. If you watch a Petri dish full of bacteria, they will keep multiplying
exponentially until they hit the edge and run out of food. What the economists
have done is given us a highly sophisticated set of abstractions to enable us to
reach the edge of the Petri dish as fast as possible. We need more people who
have the courage to do the hard thinking, more grown-ups who are willing to
acknowledge that capitalism is just an advanced form of Petri dish
culture.” – Wes
Jackson

“If you tremble with
indignation at every injustice then you are a comrade of mine.” – Che
Guevara
