A Trip to Molokini

A TRIP TO MOLOKINI

ABOARD THE PRIDE OF MAUI

READY, SET GO

SOCCER TEAM

These girls were having the time of their life. The hooded guy in the foreground is working on the diving gear.

HAPPY AS CLAMS

See all the happy swimmers splashing around and checking out the wildlife. Molokini is a lot larger than it looked from the boat, below, and actually looks like a clam in this photo.

GREAT FRIGATE BIRD

Molokini is heavily populated by these large birds. The Great Frigate Bird or Fregata minor was so named for its ability to keep up with the high-speed, medium-sized sailing war vessels of the same name. In fact, the frigate is so highly adapted for flying, it cannot swim or walk. Hawaiians named it “Iwa” or thief, since it forces other birds to drop their prey, which it takes for itself in mid-air.

SPARKLING SEA

The water on the way back was dazzling.
