BOB AND CAMILLE AT HOME ON MAUI

FRIED RICE IS NICE

Bob rustles up a batch on a Saturday evening – September 4th to be exact.

ART GECKO

This adventurous (aren’t they all?) little house gecko was hanging out on the screen of our front window.  The Bio Pod was parked on the driveway and the gecko is superimposed on it.

BIG BEACH, AGAIN

Bob drove us to Makena, where another couple stroll the beach, after our Sunday morning coffee on September 5th. This is becoming a habit. It is very refreshing, reactivates our connection to the earth and the sea, infuses our little nicks and cuts with healing salt water and gives me an excuse to wash my hair. We always make sure to arrive before there are more than 5 other cars in the parking lot and generally leave before there are 30.

Cookie wades on in, leaving her footprints behind on shore. That’s Kahoolawe in the background.

She catches a wave.

Rides it in.

And goes back out.

BUSINESS TRAVEL

On the 11th, Bob flew to the Oahu Biofuels Plant on business.

Dan Mizner retro-fitted this Matson container with windows, walls and doors to create an office and a lab.

When Bob spends the night, he sleeps on a futon in the lab.

BIRTHDAY TIME

We began celebrating Bob’s forty sixth birthday on September 21st with a chocolate mousse cake from the Haile Maile bakery. This time we were prudent and only got the 6″ version but it still took us more than a week to eat the whole thing. There are 10 candles on this cake; 4 for the forty and 6 for the six.

SEPTEMBER 25TH

Our back yard awaits the arrival of our friends, Shaun and Pamela who are coming for dinner on Bob’s birthday.

Bob enjoys the company while sipping on a White Russian. We recently watched “The Big Lebowski” in which the main character, The Dude, religiously drank this mixture of Vodka, Kahlua and Cream.

Shaun always gets the oh-so-complicated chair that is oh-so-comfortable once you get settled down into it.

Pamela brought a large bottle of wine and shared it with Camille. Pamela is laughing because Camille asked her to smile but couldn’t locate the view finder. “I’m right here, Camille!” Pamela is saying while she waits for her friend to snap the shutter.

Shaun sits in front of a bowl of salad. We made spaghetti and garlic bread to go with it.

LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE

Our neighbor and landlord, John, rescued this little dog and named him Aika (EYE ka). He looks to be part Basenji and part Welsh Corgi.

Bob and Aika are playing a little game of “Look who has the prize, now!” with a piece of a cow’s hoof.

This Month’s Quotes:

“The average man is a conformist, accepting miseries and disasters with the stoicism of a cow standing in the rain.” – Colin Wilson

“Don’t worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that.  Because what the world needs are people who have come alive. – Howard Thurman

“To be out of harmony with one’s own surroundings is of course a misfortune, but it is not
always a misfortune to be avoided at all costs. Where the environment is stupid or prejudiced or cruel, it is a sign of merit to be out of harmony with it. – Bertrand Russell

“Is life not a hundred times too short for us to stifle ourselves?” – Friedrich Nietzsche
