BOB AND CAMILLE IN NICARAGUA
BODEGA BEAUTIFICATION
We had a slow week, so Pablo and his cohorts cut palm fronds and replaced the old ones around the beverage bodega on February 1st.
THIS CAN BE SCARY
>
Have you ever walked to the parking lot and were unable to find your car? Then you can relate to our panic when we can’t find our shoes at the end of the evening.
THE TWO BOBS
Speaking of scary! When these two collaborate, anything can happen. Here they discuss important issues of the day while standing in front of an employee’s drying laundry. Sadly for us, the Bob on the right headed home to Texas, as planned, two and a half weeks after this photo was taken.
HEADING OFF
Camille took Paola up on her invitation to go riding and Steve generously came to fetch her in his boat on February 12th.
FAT BUNKY
This is the horse Camille rode on the 12th but this photo was taken on the 21st outside Casa Iguana while Paola was downloading emails. Bunky is Italian for “fanny” and he is so named because his er, fanny, is nice and round.
VALENTINE’S DAY
Zoe, Tim, Camille and Bob treated themselves to a bottle of wine at the top of the lighthouse for Valentine’s Day. This photo was taken at the top, just minutes after Tim threw his slippers down into the trees below. “Lighthouse” is a gross exaggeration. We climbed one of the two steel-runged ladders straight up to a platform which houses a light and found that there was barely room for four people.
This is the view of the south end of the island from the platform. The Dive Shop is on the right side, and Casa Iguana is on the left. The blue and orange contraption close to the base of the “lighthouse” is one of the island’s wells.
NIGHTLIFE
After hiking back to the Dive Shop, we hung out alongside the sidewalk for awhile. This man, James, came up to borrow some anti-flea treatment for his dog and entertained us with stories for about 20 minutes. He made us all laugh and we even told a few stories of our own!
STILL LIFE
This collection of beach offerings lives in our bathroom and often gets re-arranged while we sit and listen to the great tailed grackles play in the trees overhead.
BANANA STUDY
There is art all around us. The weather has turned hot, dry and beautiful.
LANDFILL AND INCINERATOR
These small holes serve as our solid waste disposal system. We burn the plastic and paper on the left and bury the glass on the right.
A better look at the incinerator.
FIND THE LIZARD
Bob took these photos of a lizard on February 17.
Can you see it now?
SELF-CLEANING BEACH
The mild weather reverses the debris-laden waves and pulls everything back out to sea. Every day the beach gets a little cleaner.
STAFF PORTRAIT
Cathy and Grant emailed a request for a group photo of all their hotel employees. We assembled everyone and asked a kind guest to snap the shutter. For more photos of our hard-working co-workers, click on Iguana Staff.
DAWN OF A NEW DAY
On February 21, as on many days, Bob goes out to the point to watch the sun rise over the sea.
The promise of daylight turns the waves pink.
And then, when it fulfills its promise, it turns the shore to gold.
SURPRISE!
As mentioned before, we step lightly when making our way outside to the bathroom. This handsome frog prompted me to run back to the house for the camera on February 27th.
ANOTHER GOOD-BYE
Saying good-bye is becoming more and more difficult for us as we encounter good folks like Tio Bob (who left on the 23rd) and Claudia and Simon, shown here before walking to the front side for the 7:00am panga on February 28th.
THIS MONTH’S QUOTE:
“Why can’t we get all the people together in the world that we really like and then just stay together? I guess that wouldn’t work. Someone would leave. Someone always leaves and then we have to say good-bye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos.” – Snoopy
