At the Beach on the East Cape
In which Bob and Camille find out what they’ve been missing all these months while spending five days at the East Cape beaches of southern Baja Peninsula with Kris, Avery, Heidi and John in November, 2006
CABO PULMO
This is the beach right outside the resort looking north. We could hear the sound of the waves breaking on shore all during the night. There is a theory that the sound of breaking waves is comforting to us because it sounds a lot like the “whoosh” of air coming and going from our mother’s lungs while we are in the womb.
The same beach looking south towards the taco bar and Mermaid Beach.
People tied their boats up in the lagoons with easy access to quaint public restrooms.
Another view of the bano publico or public restroom.
MERMAID BEACH
A short drive away, this beach offered swimming, snorkeling, tide pools, wildlife, and shady cliffs.
Camille, Heidi and Kris investigate the snail colonies.
Kris took this photo of her son, Avery.
Bob takes a stroll.
Camille reads Maya Angelou’s “Gather Together in My Name” which she found at Casa Chuparosa. When the rest of the group walked south over the rocks to do some snorkeling, Bob and Camille decided to stay behind and hold down the beach chairs.
Tired of reading, Camille decided to wander around some more.
Kris points to her snorkel wounds, a knee bloodied by coral. She wasn’t too concerned about it and by the next day the salt water had done its magic and healed it shut.
Kris and Heidi look very pleased with themselves. A day at the beach brings out the best in everyone by making them feel like a young child again. A brown pelican scopes out the waves before deciding where to go for its next fish.
