Shakori Hills Fall Music Festival

SHAKORI HILLS FALL MUSIC FESTIVAL

October 9 – 12, 2008

THREE DAYS OF CELEBRATION

Emily, Amy, Bob and Camille slipped back into Hippie Land for a few days.

Emily and Amy did us proud with their tie dyed head scarves. They sure are pretty!

We hauled our own food and chairs which we set up in a large meadow.

Then we settled in to enjoy some music.

Bob and Amy pose next to an umbrella-painting project designed to promote peace.

ALL OUR FRIENDS WERE THERE

Tami, packed out like a mule with a beer was busy raising funds for the Abundance Foundation to buy solar panels for Shakori. Matt and Dana stole a few moments from their busy schedules to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

JACK

All decked out in glow things so we could find him in the dark…

CLEAN TECH MAKES A CELEBRITY GUEST APPEARANCE AT SHAKORI

Andy gets left holding a bag of smelly (in David’s opinion) algae which Matt feeds into the oil crusher at clean tech.

ALGAE OIL, SORT OF

This exercise showed everyone that a conventional seed crusher is not the right tool for extracting oil from algae.  After all that effort, the yield was only a few drops of oil. Live and learn.

MUSIC GALORE

With over fifty bands playing on three stages over three and a half days, there was no chance of seeing them all.  We singled out our favorites, one of which was Aimee of Des Ark.

BOULDER ACOUSTIC SOCIETY AND THE DUHKS

Now we were ripping and tearing! Donna the Buffalo helped create the Shakori Hills Music Festival and are one of the most popular shows at the festival. We were also quite impressed with The Duhks. Eileen Ivers (not pictured) also grabbed us. All three wowed us with fantastic fiddle playing.

DONNA FANS

This mother and daughter duo like to travel the shows with their purple haired and hatted head.

MEGAFAUN AND BOULDER ACOUSTIC SOCIETY

UN-SUPERVISED FUN

HULA HOOPING AND OTHER DIVERSIONS

Jaime brought some enormous hula hoops. Ian tries his hand at tossing this orange barb bells from a string into the air. We saw him later dancing with fire!

Amy Bob and Emily were brave enough to try the hula hoops but Camille weenied out.

Bob juggled, Camille twirled and Haruka hula’ed.

ALL THAT AND CRAFTS, TOO

Amy took this photo of the wood carvings after the artist lowered a giant dragonfly from a tree branch to hover over the path.
