A DAY ON THE BEACH
CASA IGUANA – January 31, 2005
BOB STARTED IT
After months of watching the driftwood blow in and pile up, Uncle Bob got up one morning and started cleaning up the beach.
BY BUILDING A BIG FIRE
He made a big fire and dragged driftwood across the beach to feed it.
BOB JOINS IN
Unable to resist, Bob joined in and between the two of them, kept that fire going all day and into the night. We named this photo after “The Lord of the Flies.”
A PATH TO THE SEA
Meanwhile, Camille cleared a path through the seaweed. This was something she had been wanting to do for weeks. Next, she lined the path with borders made of driftwood and coconuts.
Featuring a decorated entryway. The little white balls are some kind of seed pod. There is one sea bean, another kind of pod, on the fork of the piece of wood on the right. Local artists take the sea beans and paint
pictures on them.
With the coconuts lined up in alternating smooth and hairy style.
And one bearded fellow.
Bob found this skull made of driftwood.
And Uncle Bob added this monolith.
THE MOON
After dinner, we went back to the fire on the beach with some of Iguana’s guests and watched the moon.
We were able to see the man in the moon in this shot.
So, there you have it – one of our best days on the island. We worked in silence and at our own pace. The beach looked better when we were finished. We went to bed exhausted but very satisfied. For months, we had been watching storm after storm blow more debris onto the beach. When the storms subsided and we found the time, we made our moved and cleaned it up.
