ROCK STARS
Farmers are the rock stars of the local food movement. Rising farm stars Jack and Jennie brought home cooked local food and joined us for dinner on December 2nd. Spot was jazzed.
JIM AND JASON
Jim also joined us for dinner. He has been working with Jennie and Jack at Piedmont Biofarm. A couple of days later, Jason met Spot when he came over to brew beer with Bob.
WE’VE GOT SNOW
The inevitable has happened. It has snowed. We got a dusting of snow December 4th and a full four inches late on Christmas Day. It was fun to photograph so we got out and did just that. Check out our photo essay at: Snowy Holiday December 26 2010
GREAT GOBS OF FOOD
Bob is still pulling lettuce, beets, daikon radish and carrots out of his garden. We pickle the beets and have been making a savory gingered winter root bisque with coconut milk and a dash of lemon juice, thanks to a recipe from our friend Carolyn in San Francisco. The last thing Camille cooked this month was a five gallon pail of blacked-eyed peas and seven quarts of greens for the Second Annual New Year’s Day Hoppin’ John Party at Trouts Farm.

HOLIDAY BLING FOR SPOT
We pimped out Spot for the holidays with a sparkly garland and a big red bow. Maggie’s sister, Brandy was in town and joined us for dinner on New Year’s Eve Eve.
CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEARS EVE
As dictated by tradition, we joined Haruka and Jason for dinner on Christmas Day. Haruka snuggles on her couch with Kome, one of two new feline family members. Jason drove us all to Charlotte for a New Year’s Eve concert with Keller Williams where he and Bob checked us into a hotel.
IN OUR ROOM
We had a bit of fun, bouncing back and forth between our two hotel rooms, sipping champagne and finding magic in the most unlikely of things. After our long sit in the car, it seemed like a good idea to do a little stretching. A little yoga soon turned into “who can touch the ceiling.” After we settled back down, we noticed a strange object suspended in the middle of the room. Jason took the opportunity to wow us by manipulating the white ball with his mental powers.
HOTEL ART REVISITED
Camille Haruka and Jason sip champagne in the last few hours of 2010 under some bad hotel art. Both rooms had identical art which can best be described as uninspired. We wanted to peek into the other couple hundred rooms and see if this was the only theme going.

THIS MONTH’S QUOTES:
Political assurances of the sanctity of the middle class come down to promising that the six percent of the world’s population called Americans may continue to rip through 36 percent of the earth’s resources in its endless pursuit of obesity and carcinogenic intake. Not to mention taking everybody else out with us in the process through ecocide. – Joe Bageant
“State terrorism overseas, imperialism, is never acknowledged by the media, because the media is a big business; indeed, two of the major networks are owned by defense contractors.” – Douglas Valentine from “The politics of Terror as the Business of Terror”
“This is the hidden issue hat makes governments unwilling to consider legalization: the unmanaged shift of consciousness that legal and available drugs, including plant psychedelics, would bring is extremely threatening to a dominator, ego-oriented culture.” -Terence McKenna, ‘Food of the Gods’
