HORSE ALBUM
We can’t say enough about horses. They calm us with their beauty and inspire us with their strength. Time spent outdoors tending the pastures and fencing keeps us connected to the rhythms of the natural world. They smell good. Best of all, they have taken us for many wonderful adventures across awesome country.
These pictures were taken in 1992. Please take a look at our tribute to this fine animal by clicking on Jesse.

2013 – AFRICA
Camille’s birthday ride on Quasar, Elodie’s newest addition to her string of lovely horses at The Green Ranch at Lake Bosumtwi. Bob arranged an idyllic two days at the ranch with Amy and so it was also a farewell for Amy, who had spent the month of April living at and helping run the ranch. Check out the whole story: Camille’s 59th Birthday
Another good ride with Elodie in which we were joined by Amy, and Bob got his first taste of riding a swimming horse in February, 2013. Find the whole story on this page: Green Ranch – February, 2013
2012 and 2013 – AFRICA
ELODIE AND HER HORSES
In December, Elodie invited Camille to go horse shopping in Obuasi where we got a good look at the beautiful four-year-old Anglo-Arab mare, Quasar. Quasar satisfied all criteria and Elodie put in place a plan to pave the way for her transfer from Obuasi to Bosumtwi. In the same month, we found ourselves at the lake and Camille again took the opportunity to bask in Elodie’s presence at her Green Ranch. More photos from these two fun days on this page: Elodie
FIRST HORSEBACK RIDE TOGETHER IN AFRICA
When Bob lived in Ghana as a young boy, he rode horses, motorbikes and Mammy Lorries. When we had the opportunity to move to Ghana in June, 2012, we took it and soon found ourselves riding the great little local horses from The Green Ranch along the shore of Lake Bosumtwi on July 12, 2012. More photos of our first Ghanaian horseback ride here: The Green Ranch
2012 – NORTH CAROLINA
The first ride of 2012, January 7th – Barbara is on the ground, after checking Joker’s boo boo while Simon snuffles her for treats. In February, Dallas, Barb, John and Fritzi all ended up on the same trail with Sharon, Barbara and Camille. More horse photos from 2012 at Riding NC 2012

TRAIL RIDING WITH PEG AND COMPANY
After more than a year of doing other stuff (buying a house, settling into a new community and throwing myself into the local food movement) my new friend, Peg got me back into the saddle. She loans me her mare and we ride the extensive trail system surrounding her property. Our first ride was in May of 2011.
Another great ride on the west side of the Gum Springs Church Road with Barbara on Hailey and Sharon on Mingo. More photos at: Riding NC 2011
CHINCOTEAGUE
On our way home after our annual trip north to visit family, Bob booked us one night on Chincoteague right next door to a paddock full of mares and foals. What fun! See more photos from that trip here.

A GLORIOUS DAY IN FEBRUARY
Why is this woman smiling?
IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH GLORY
Barbara decided to pull her 22-year-old Arabian Mare out of retirement this year and after 2 hours of ground work, she was back in the saddle! Glory had not been ridden since her involvement with 4-H 15 years ago. Just goes to show you they never forget. Barb is looking forward to many happy days in the saddle with her old friend.
CHANTILLY
After three months of ground work, Chantilly is ready to be started under saddle. Her owners are thinking of selling her. She’ll make a great prospect for an experienced rider and I’ve promised to show her new owner the various “buttons” I’ve installed.
2005 – COLORADO
CHANTILLY
Glowing with health and beauty on a fine fall day, this pretty 5-year-old Blood Bay Mare has just begun her ground work and has never been ridden.
SILVER
Silver thinks secret horse thoughts on this beautiful September day. Silver is an 11-year-old Missouri Fox Trotter and just happened to have the same name as a horse Sharyl’s Uncle owned when she was growing up.
SHARYL AND MONTY
Sharyl calls her water horse out of the boggy spot he’s been grazing in. Monty likes water so much that Sharyl says he doesn’t just walk into the irrigation ditch, he leaps into it like a kid diving into a swimming pool. Monty is a 10-year-old Missouri Fox Trotter.
CAMILLE AND MONTY
Camille looks like she swallowed a canary and Monty is saying, “What? – when am I gonna get my snack?” The silly thing is, I get giddy whenever I’m around horses. Just looking at them makes me happy!
2005- NICARAGUA
Paola with her stallion, Gibley on January 8. She has her laptop computer in her backpack and rides to Casa Iguana from her Farm Peace and Love on the north end of Little Corn Island. When she arrives, she ties her horse to a tree and uses our satellite dish to download her emails.
Camille poses with Bunky Boy, another of Paola’s horses on February 21.

ARCHIVES
Camille and Bob preparing to ride in the 1993 Corn Roast Parade on their saddle horses, Penny and Jesse. The theme of the parade that year was “Business and Farming, hand in hand”.
