DIGESTER #1 IS ALIVE!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

After last month’s loading of digester #1 with sludge and rumen, it has come alive and is producing gas. Martin, Johannes, and Justin have a twice a week monitoring schedule underway. Gas bubbles can be seen coming up through the water in the bucket.<\/span><\/p>\n

SLUDGE DRYING FOR IN-SITU BIODIESEL<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Jeremy and\u00a0Wilson\u00a0are drying some sludge in a bisected polydrum for Edward to use in bench-scale work. The extended concrete generator pad is now fully dry and\u00a0awaiting\u00a0the move of the genset in early January.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

GRASSCUTTERS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A work crew from the landfill came and cut the bush around one of the ponds next to our site in preparation to de-sludge it. The cattle egrets are still very much at home at the ponds – de-sludged or not.<\/span><\/p>\n

ADVENTURES IN SHOPPING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Bob went on a shopping trip to Adum for some pipe fittings and then on to Suame in search of hose, and of course, found some. He also realized that walking next to poles being sloppily unloaded was something to avoid. Always best to keep your eyes open and wits about you while in the Magazine!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

SUAME IS WHERE CARS GO WHEN THEY DIE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Car parts are everywhere in the magazine. Cars and trucks are disassembled down to their component parts to be reused as need to fix other vehicles. Each “shop” in Suame typically deals in a certain range of\u00a0components,\u00a0like steering columns, or motors, or tires.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

FINAL RESTING PLACE<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

On the north side of Suame there is a spot where some larger pieces of metal are resting, and just beyond them the final resting place of many Ghanaians.<\/span><\/p>\n
