One minute we were walking on the forest floor and the next we were up in the trees, walking the plank, hanging on to the ropes to keep our balance, swaying with every footstep.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n ENGINEERING FEAT<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n We just had to trust that the engineers (Canadian!) knew a thing or two. Unprompted, our guide Beatrice reassured us that the walkway was inspected each morning before any visitors stepped foot on it. We were happy to notice the pieces of wood that had been inserted under the cables to soften their embrace.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n FORM AND FUNCTION<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n The system had a beautiful look of improbability to it, making us feel like elves in a fairy tale. We tried not to look straight down at the lumber bolted to a series of aluminum ladders.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n HAPPINESS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Happiness is walking in the sunshine with Amy above the trees.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n AMY<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n A story-book figure if we ever saw one, Amy was definitely in her green and glorious element.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n HIKING\u00a0CHIC<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Socks and\u00a0sandals\u00a0attest to Camille’s sense of fashion.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n TREE LOVER<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Some of these trees are hundreds of years old and their energy made Amy smile.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n FRACTALS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Back down on the forest floor, our view changed immediately. Now we found ourselves looking up into the leaves that we had been looking down upon.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n ROOTS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Umbrella tree (Musanga cecropioides<\/a>) and fig are equally captivating.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n THIRST<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n Beatrice demonstrates how to use a leaf as a drinking cup. Which made us thirsty. Next stop, a man with green coconuts, cocoa pods, palm wine, and honey for sale. We each got a coconut, drank the sweet water and then ate the meat. We \u00a0then bought a cocoa pod and some honey, and some palm wine.
