IN THE KITCHEN<\/h3>\n
We fried up that breadfruit Eric gave us last month into sweet breadfruit fritters. Elodie joined Camille and BJ in the kitchen to prepare dinner before going off to watch “The Extraordinary Adventures of Ad\u00e9le Blanc-Sec” at Alliance Francaise<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Our view out the kitchen window often resembles a National Geographic documentary. We look directly into our neighbor’s courtyard and so see them going about their daily lives which are lived mostly outside, cooking, washing, butchering animals – it all happens in front of our eyes.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Curtains help keep the hot sun from baking the terrazzo. Camille’s desk is flanked by windows that open to the east. Four panels of batiked cloth hang in the south facing windows of our bedroom. A couple of weeks later, we took these down, washed them and packed them up with the rest of our belongings.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The sun is shining brighter, rain is rare and the winds are shifting to blow from the north. Harmattan is on its way but we are going to miss it this year. Not! Bob turned up the saturation settings on our camera, bringing out the highlights in the caladium and veins of the kontimire.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A touch of red in the corner of our lawn. This plant showed up as a volunteer and Bob relocated it to an un-mowable corner between lawn and courtyard.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Basil and chili peppers find their way into many of our meals. These, too found new homes at the end of the month.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Camille models a tunic she had made for Stephanie and a Ghanaian suit that Eric and Linda had made for Camille. We are going home with plenty mementos of our time in Ghana.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The porch is a great place to hang out. Jay and BJ lounge in the hammocks the day after pub crawling with the Australians. The deck is also a nice resting spot for Jay’s much used bike.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BJ gave Camille a colorful pair of socks. One bright morning Camille eyes a rock to pick off our front lawn before she and Bob head off to get some tofu.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The full moon set behind the house across the street just before dawn on November 18th.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n One thing we are surely going to miss is sweet Cape Coast pineapple first thing in the morning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n What goes up must come down.
