There’s a pigeon on my finger! Or, Oh No! The columns\u00a0are falling! As tourists we often found\u00a0irony in the mundane.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A. k. a. The Typewriter or the Altar of the Nation was built entirely\u00a0out of marble and completed in 1911\u00a0to honor the first king of a united Italy. We were attracted to the enormous statue of Victor on his flashy horse.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The next day we went over to Vatican City and climbed to the top of the Basillica, so here’s another page of fun photos: The Vatican<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n After leaving Vatican City, we crossed the Tiber where Camille looks northeast towards the Castel Sant Angelo and beyond to the Supreme Court of \u00a0Cassation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Viewed from within and from without.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We came upon a fountain there the horses wore fish tails and the human’s had tails, too.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Definitely not as clean and tidy as the cobblestones in Lugano. In many places the chinking was gone, replaced by weeds and cigarette butts. Lugano smelled like flowers, Florence of sewers and Rome smelled like an ashtray.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Two people in a silken bag? A man driving a horse cart with his cell phone to his ear.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n More thrashing horses but no water due to maintenance. We turned our backs to the fountain and\u00a0tossed\u00a0coins over our left shoulders anyway, having heard that they were gathered and used to feed the poor.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Our stay in Rome was short.
