MONUMENT TO THE POPE

Erected as a tribute to Juan Pablo II after his visit to Managua, this monument stands at one end of the plaza.

This is the back side of the monument.

AMPHITHEATRE

Bob stands next to the fountain in the square, doing his best to look like a tourist. Behind him is the Teatro Ruben Dario.

The Teatro Ruben Dario mimics the mountains in the background.

We don’t know who this statue commemorates, but we do know that he did not die in battle because the horse has only one foot in the air.

THE OLD CATHEDRAL

This church survived a devastating earthquake in 1972 but has yet to be restored.

THE NEW CATHEDRAL

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is quite modern in comparison to the old Cathedral.

We thought it looked as if it were topped with bubbles.

We walked over from our hotel for a better look.
