THIS BE
THE SH-T!
Nancy proudly
shows off the the horse and alpaca poop she has conscientiously stockpiled at
her farm, Blue
Heron Farm Alpacas. When Jason, self-proclaimed “Connoisseur of
Manure” arrived on her farm, he picked up a couple balls, rolled them
around in his hand and declared it “good sh–t!” Click on the
photo for a closer look of that sh-t-eating grin of his. Visit Edible
Earthscapes to find out more about Jason and Haruka’s farm.
GETTING
RIGHT TO WORK
Jason and Haruka
don’t mess around. If you want to farm, you need to work hard and
these two are truly amazing in their capacity for hard work.
HOE HOE
HOE
Jason worked the
tractor, bringing loads of the good stuff, and Haruka and Bob took turns
smoothing it into the corners of the truck bed with a hoe. Camille took
pictures and chatted with good friend and riding buddy, Nancy. Check out
some photos of Nancy on horseback here: Heads Up 2009
DONE WITH
THE DUNG
Haruka gracefully
prepares do dismount from the trailer after smoothing out the last tractor
bucket of poo. Then she and Bob walked over to say hello to the four
alpacas of the apocalypse, Louise, Gazelle, Audrey Hepburn and
Edmund. Click on the photo to look at the detail.
HOME GROWN
Nancy took Camille
over to see her new chicken coop she built with her own two hands which houses
three hens, two roosters and occasionally one guinea. She opened the top
and there was a beautiful new egg waiting for her. With the exception of
one, the guinea fowl are content to roam the property. Inexplicably, this
particular bird prefers to hang out with the chickens.
THE GRASS
IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE
This handsome
rooster stepped right out after Nancy opened the door to the coop. At the
same time, the guinea was running around the side looking for a way in.
This reminds me of something the Chinese doorman at the Hyatt in Tianjin where
we lived for six months said to me. He said the people on the outside of
the city walls want to get in and the people on the inside want to get
out. Click on the pictures to see the larger files.
