WHALE DAY
February 15, 2004
It was a beautiful day at Kalama Park in Kihei for the annual Whale Day Celebration.
THE WHALE DAY PARADE
Whale day always begins with a parade. This year’s entries included Shaun Stenshol of Maui Recycling Service and Bio-Beetle Rental Car fame.
Shaun’s mini bug was the hit of the parade.
PACIFIC BIODIESEL
Kelly King does the parade shaka.
Larry brought the fuel truck.
YOU *CAN* TEACH AN OLD CAR NEW TRICKS
Pacific Biodiesel customers, Bob Funk and Jan Wells drove their 1978 300CD Mercedes which is in great shape after 359,000 miles of use.
GMO FREE MAUI
The best way to draw attention to a cause is to carry a banner through the streets.
MEANWHILE…
Back at the park, busy do-gooders set up their volunteer booths in the advocacy section.
JO ANNE JOHNSON…
Stopped by, like she always does, and graciously posed for a photograph with Shaun
and Stuart from the Community Work Day program.
A GIRL’S BEST FRIEND…
Is her Cockatoo. Jules stopped by with her pal, Maynard.
MAUI GREEN ENERGY
Situated right next to the bathrooms, the Maui Green Energy booth attracted a lot of attention.

BREAK TIME
When the stress of talking to people about our causes becomes tiresome, we wander over to another booth to sit in the background. Here our neighbor Dot Buck catches up with John Kimmey in the back of the Maui Green Energy booth.
JUST SAY NO
GMO Free Maui Set up across the “street” from us. Here Susanne, Alice, (Dave with his hand on his hat) and Dot happily share information with the crowd.

FOOD
Also in the park were many food booths.
AND CRAFTS
And dozens of craft booths.
Whale pictures and carvings were only a small sampling of the crafts available.
COTTON CANDY
These industrious young men seemed to be taking their job of manufacturing this timeless air-spun confection very seriously.
FUN FOR THE KIDS
Keiki fun castles and Climbing tower

MUSIC
Towards the end of the day, Dr. Nat and Rio Ritmo raised an ebbing crowd to it’s feet for some enthusiastic dancing, including Bob and Camille.
TREE SITTERS
For a better look at the musicians, people climbed into the trees behind the stage.
