FS2BD July, 2013

Another month of fun at the site…

MASONS (NOT FREE)

Here’s a mason and his two helpers, along with Eric as we headed out to the site to start construction of the new pump house.

DESIGN/BUILD

Bob came up with the design, and built the roof himself. The 480 volt, 2 inch trash pump is not water-proof so this shed will keep it happy.

THERE WILL BE BLOOD!

Every sucessful project needs to have a little blood spilled, so Bob obliged – no big deal, just a sharp edge on the metal roof.

MOUNTAINS AND LAKES

Of trash and poop that is. Scenic no?

SOLID MANAGEMENT

We are feeding these digesters much more than they are really designed to handle, and all the mixing we do to facilitate digestion stirs up lots of solids (and makes lots of gas!.) On the left the welder is fabricating a tool to insert through the gas collection lines to keep them from clogging with solids. On the right is one of the grossly undersized sand filters that has been overwhelmed by solids.

TANKS A LOT

The biodiesel reactor and drying oven sit in the garage of Casa Kumasi awaiting installation at the site. On the right, the wash-up water tank has been re-positioned on a small platform to make it easier to get cleaned up at the end of the day.

SELF HAULING

Every other Tuesday we have a project meeting at the site. On July 30 Bob and Eric loaded Casa Kumasi’s garbage, separated recyclables, and then concrete rubble into the back of the car. The trash/recycling was going to its appropriate places at the landfill, while the rubble was used to patch the access road, which is very muddy this time of year. On the right is the gang “enstooled” for our bi-weekly meeting.
