Unrivaled hospitality in Shirley’s beautiful home, a garden party with family, breakfast with Cathi and Fred, visits with brother Michael, Mahlon, and Garth – September 4 through 7, 2016
PATIO TIME WITH SHIRLEY
Shirley put us up for three nights in her home, The Holland House, a historic landmark designed by famed architect Eugene Groves. Ten years ago, the three of us toured more of his work at Colorado State University. Photo Essay here: CSU Campus Tour with Shirley
WE GO WAY BACK
Mahlon, who you’ll see further on down this page, and Shirley were best man and maid of honor at our wedding, July 31, 1994. Especially poignant to see Emily in her wedding dress twenty-two years ago.
THE HUB
The weather was perfect so we spent most of our time at the round table on the back patio. Michael came by with fried chicken and Cathi brought art supplies.
A SEASONED BACK YARD
The ever-lovely Amy shed her shoes immediately in Shirley’s well-groomed back yard. While many of the adjacent lots in this Denver neighborhood are sprouting mammoth construction projects with only six feet of walking space between wall and property line, Shirley’s lush lot remains a haven of wildlife and repose.
GARDEN PARTY
Molly and Shane joined the rest of the family for an afternoon of relaxed post-wedding catching up. Amy’s dog Osha, Caroline, Molly, Nolan, and Lorraine enjoy the shade of Shirley’s big trees.
Grandpa Bob and Nolan engage in some quality bonding.
Paul and Lorraine in the afterglow of a beautiful wedding. Brother Michael delved into deep topics with Paul.
Weeks ago, when Camille told Shirley that she’d invited “everybody, their brother, and their dog” to the garden party, Shirley took it literally and said, “That would be great if they bring their dogs!”
TEETHING
Nolan is cutting teeth, which requires buckets of drool.
THE PHOTOGRAPHERS
Both Camille and Michael got behind the lens.
MICHAEL’S PHOTOS
Paul, Camille, Bob, Molly, Shane, Tyler, Emily, and Lorraine on the patio. Amy, Nolan, Steven, Caroline, and the dogs on the lawn.
It was the perfect day, and perfect way to unwind after wedding week. Thank you, Shirley!
MEMORY LANE
Bob drove out to Boulder to see Mahlon while Camille and Cathi went for a long walk along the Highline Canal in Denver.
VICE PARTNERS
Vice partners, Mahlon and Bob figured out the selfie thing and took a picture of one of their favorite activities.
BACK YARD VISITING
Camille tried out a trike in Michael’s back yard and Bob got all caught up with Garth in his back yard.
MICHAEL’S ART
We were taken by this expressive painting on Michael’s wall, a picture he made a few years ago. Amazing how a few strokes can say so much: vulnerable, steadfast, solitary, and optimistic.
