LYLE AND TAMI'S HOME IN THE WOODS

North Carolina - April, 2007

"Tami's Travail" as a sign on the driveway calls this seventeen-acre property, is an interesting combination of creative energy and tranquility.  When Lyle and Tami heard that Bob was coming to Pittsboro to work with Rachel in the lab, they graciously offered to let us stay with them.  We were charmed by their home, the woods, the art and their two intellectually curious sons (no TV watching in this home!)

FORM AND FUNCTION

The household makes good use of the sun as solar energy, and for lighting the many pieces of outside art such as this Blue Bottle Tree.

COWIE WOWIE

It is amazing how Lyle animates the inanimate.

WHO IS LOOKING AT WHO?

Everywhere we looked, some kind of critter was looking back at us.

VIEW FROM THE DINING ROOM NOOK

The wild flowered path to Cuba in the morning light and the rock solid matron a friend made from concrete in the evening light.

A NICE GAME OF CHESS

Just in case you get the urge to play, the board is always set up and waiting.  The fence is made of what's left after tractor parts have been stamped out of sheet metal.

GUANTANAMO

A fenced deer-proof garden named 'Cuba' lies beyond this old prison door.

A TEASE

It was such a busy weekend, the hammock stood idle.

TIMELESS

The tool shed in the late afternoon sun looks as timeless as the woods themselves.

A SNAKE IN THE GRASS

When Bob and Lyle walked from the house to the Coop Saturday, they came close to stepping on this snake. We always tell people that the snake is more scared of us than we are of them and yet, we always jump when we see one.

THE BUSINESS END

The snake kept its head hidden in the grass.

LAZY SUNDAY

When the family camped overnight at Shakori Hills, we took a leisurely morning stroll through the woods and around the swimming hole Lyle created.  Of course, the dogs just jumped right in, spooking a large frog.  Bob took a break on a tractor seat with dragon attached.

MONKEYING AROUND

Monkey, the shyer of two nearly identical dogs, followed us everywhere we went, albeit at a distance.  If we wanted to pet him, we had to turn our backs and crouch down before he'd come to us.
