APRIL, 2013 ISSUE #143

No kidding, April was a really good month for us. The rainy season has come, making gardening even easier. We enjoyed a trip to the coast for three relaxing days with Amy, featuring a stop at Kakum National Park. After our return from Elmina, long time friend Rob arrived to lend his engineering shoulder to the FS2BD project. Rob spent two weeks at Casa Kumasi and took some great pictures which he gave us permission to post here. As a grand finale to the month, we attended a party in the pastoral town of Konongo.

Justin savors the unusual taste of an ice cold Malta. Jeremy planted corn awhile ago and has just begun to reap the rewards. Lots more photos of the gardens and our food at: Food Abundance

Justin girlfriend, Miki joined us for a couple of weeks and naturally went to market to buy some Ghanaian fabric. And of course, met Spot.

MARTIN AND GIFTY’S WEDDING

We were happy to be invited to our first Ghanaian church wedding and found it an unforgettable cultural experience.

STUMBLE INN, REVISITED

After several months of inland heat, we began pining for some sea breeze. So off to our favorite beach side lodge we went. Amy immediately got her feet in the water and later took beautiful photos of one of her favorite plants, the passion flower. KAKUM CANOPY WALK

We got up early to be among the first visitors to walk above the trees at Kakum National Park. Our guide Beatrice was a wealth of information, among other things, demonstrating how to use a particular leaf as a drinking cup. See everything at: Kakum Canopy Walk

ELMINA AND CAPE COAST

ROB GETS A GOOD LOOK AT KUMASI

During his two weeks in Kumasi, Rob took over one hundred photos which he happily shared with us. His fresh eyes captured the garden city in a new light. Some of the photos made their way into the project page and we chose thirty to feature on this page: Rob’s Ghana Photos

ROB AT KEJETIA

We were very happy that Rob agreed to experience the sights, sounds, smells and sea of protoplasm that is Central Market. Once there, Rob, Eric and Bob lined up for the obligatory market shots.

DIVING INTO THE FABULOUS WORLD OF FABRIC

Rob and Camille turn to face Bob before diving into the market. Rob’s wife, Sharyl has plans to sew some clothes using the fabrics Rob bought at Central Market.

‘TIS THE SEASON

Mango season is a wonderful time of year. Any time of year is a good time to admire the beauty of stately royal palms.

NEW FRIENDS AND OLD

We met Nauzley on the bus to Cape Coast April 11th. We’ve known Rob since 1990. They both met Spot on April 21st.

THIS MONTH’S QUOTES:

“If the average American used only as much energy per year as the average European, America would be exporting oil, not importing it.” – John Michael Greer from The Long Descent

“The word “travel” stems from the same root as “travail does. There’s a reason for this. For centuries, travel was equated with suffering. Only pilgrims, nomads, soldiers and fools traveled.” – Eric Weiner from The Geography of Bliss
