Party at Konongo

Bill’s Belated Birthday Bash in Konongo: Another happy gathering in Ghana, West Africa – April 27, 2013

AN IDYLLIC PARTY VENUE

Konongo was a breath of fresh air and well worth the hour to hour and a half drive from Kumasi. It was a spectacularly cool, dry day and the country air was especially invigorating, the landscape rolling in pastoral goodness. Some of us shared a ride in Kat and Agye’s Land Rover, shown here parked close to the Emergency Assembly Point sign.

THE CLUB HOUSE

When Bill and Chrissie added up their RSVPs, they realized they weren’t going to squeeze forty people into their home. So they moved the venue down the hill to the Konongo Club House just down the hill. Eric, Rob and Bob settled right in.

WELL APPOINTED

Chrissie and Bill saw to it that there was plenty of refreshments, everyone brought some food to share and the club house itself was resplendent. Manu, her children and Jock explore the beverage options while Nauzley investigates the fine woodwork.

SETTLING IN

It didn’t take long for friends to connect and conversations to flow.

MULTI-TIERED CONVERSATION

As always, we enjoyed a nice mix of small talk, jokes, stories, theories, observations and deep thoughts. Nauzley, Jeremy, Bill, Agye and Justin had a good time exploring the many levels of good conversation.

CHARMING CHILDREN

Bob asked two of Chrissie and Bill’s children, Lilly and Jock what they were studying in school and found their answers to be both honest and polite. Their children are neither shy nor overbearing.

TREE TENDER

Jock amused himself for quite a while with a plastic spoon and a mud puddle. He stirred the mud around until it reached the proper consistency and then carried a spoonful, then delivered it to a nearby palm tree.

ROAMING THE GROUNDS

A beautiful herd of brahman cattle grazed beyond the mango tree. Kat walks along the water hose towards the tanker employed to fill the swimming pool after checking the water level. At 2pm, they still had a ways to go.

PARKING LOT CONVERSATIONS

Cecie sucks a water sachet and shares a few moments her sister . Laura arrives in her rich, purple dress which looks fabulous next to the bright pink and orange flowers on Chrissie’s dress.

TENNIS COURTS

Bill joined Manu’s children in a game of tennis while Jock and Cecie batted a badminton birdie around on the sidelines.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Club staff readies the barbie underneath the mango tree beside the tennis court. A tree which also houses a giant satellite disc.

GOOD FRIENDS

Joseph and Lena are joined by Jane who makes herself smaller while Lena makes herself taller.

CHAMPAGNE AT THE CLUB

A party without bubbly is not much of a party.

BIRTHDAY CAKE

Bill shows us what a real knife looks like and prepares to cut the delicious chocolate cake Lena baked for his party!
