Taking advantage of the juxtaposition of moon, earth, and birthday, we celebrate Summer Solstice at Alisa’s the day before her birthday
June 20, 2016
UNDER THE OAKS
They old yellow house with its yard full of mature oaks is the perfect place to gather. An altar was made to honor transition from spring to summer, from life with Chris to life without. The wheel keeps on turning.
Alisa’s lovely children – Amie with their African grey, George, Noah with Boston bull Kyrie, and photo-bomber Eden.
Eden beats a drum, Mia sits on her father’s lap.
It’s not a party without a fire. This time Mia had the privilege of lighting it up. Jason, Bob and Richard enjoy conversation while Eden plays with a smudge stick.
Alisa brings out more chairs. Janice takes a seat on the swing and chats with Jenn, Tami and Haruka.
Alisa and Brooksie, Lexie, Lyle and Heather
Alisa reads a passage suitable for the occasion. Camille and Tami flank the birthday girl.
Alisa, Hope, and Tami. Neighbors and friends. We are all fortunate indeed.
STRAWBERRY MOON
They call this the strawberry moon because the June moon signaled the time of ripe berries. This is the first time the full moon has fallen on the Summer solstice since 1967 and it won’t happen again until 2062. As the sky darkened we walked over to the asparagus field to yowl at the moon. Someone said this particular moon heralded transformation so we playing a game called “How would you transform yourself?” Camille wanted to reinvent herself as a blonde, Whitney as a slim Asian woman, Joe said, “No thanks, I’m fine the way I am,” and Lyle’s coming back as plastic wrap. Nothing but entertainment with this gang.
