June Yard and Garden

More garden goodness and yard pretties, the secret to high quality of life is food and beauty – June, 2016

POTATO TIME

Fingerlings are already finding their way into the kitchen. Potato salad is always in stock, and we have boiled potatoes with sour cream, parsley, and chives on Sunday, fried potatoes on burrito night, well you get the picture – potatoes every which way.

PEPPERS AND PAWPAWS

SEASON EXTENSION

A gift from our friend Trip, this greenhouse will extend our garden into winter.

PERENNIALS

20160624Hydrangeas  20160612Flowers

Perennial flowers are the best – they need virtually no maintenance and give abundantly year after year. A late freeze banished our hope for hydrangeas but they got their second wind and are prolific. We also enjoy gladiolus and red hot pokers. All three of these beautiful flowers came with the house. Some caring soul planted them years ago and we continue reaping the benefits.

THIS JUST IN…

20160624CannaLeaf  20160624Canna

These beautiful cannas with their striking orange blooms and variegated leaves are the latest perennial planting at Trouts Farm. Camille ran into Luke next door one day and he offered her an armful of canna lily plants leftover from one of his and Jason’s landscaping jobs. We planted them in the reclaimed spot around the poplar stump in our front yard.
