THE FAMILY FARM

Bob and Camille visit this family-owned conglomeration of horses and ponies

on September 4, 2006

OUT ON THE PLAINS

This is where Camille has been riding recently with Liz, Chris, Stephen and Aubrey on Mondays and Thursdays.

 WITH VIEWS OF THE LAKE

The north side - sometimes we ride around this way first.

The south side - and sometimes we go the other way around.

RELICS OF THE PAST

Silent testimony to a life gone by, these silos will likely disappear when this land is developed for housing in the near future.

FOUR OF SIX HORSES AND PONIES

Mother and daughter live across the driveway from each other and between the two families there are six horses and ponies.  Although grandmother Jeanne can no longer ride, her husband, daughter and five grandchildren do.

Look who has the sense to wait by the gait.  Cowboy Joe, like most ponies is very smart.  The other horses, Buster, Dakota and Kiss look towards the humans but Joe knows he will be the first one out to pasture if he waits by the latch side (not the hinge side) of the gate.  Dakota used to be the horse Liz rode on the hunt before Dakota hurt her back and Kiss is her two-year old filly.  Buster is Liz's new mount and Cowboy Joe is used for giving the children riding lessons.

COWBOY JOE AND BUSTER

The long and the short of it.  Cowboy Joe is about 12 hands high while Buster, a Percheron/Thoroughbred cross measures 17 hands.  The make the perfect Mutt and Jeff pair.

Cowboy Joe gets a tousling from Bob.  On Wednesday afternoons, Joe is School Pony for three little girls, Iona, Skye and Heidi.  Macky, who lives across the driveway is School Pony to Julia.

MR. T AND MACKY LIVE IN A PASTURE ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY

Buster is Chris's horse and Macky is one of the two School Ponies.  Both are six-year-olds.  Camille takes turns riding both of them.

Mr. T (named after a t-bone shaped star) like Buster, is 17 hands tall.  He is a Belgian/Thoroughbred cross.

CAMILLE PLAYS WITH HER FRIENDS

She is obviously at home in the horse world.  T and Macky are trying to figure out what she has in mind for them today.

MR. T

Mr. T is the manifestation of a lifelong dream for Chris.  Unfortunately, Chris was badly hurt in an accident involving cattle and was unable to ride T for a year.  He's making up for lost time this year and hauls T all over.

WHY THE LONG FACE?

Couldn't resist borrowing this joke...

MACKY SAYS HELLO

What Macky (short for Macaroni) lacks in size, he makes up for in personality.  He always comes right up to Camille in the pasture to say hello.

AND A LITTLE DOG, TOO

Molly, a Boston Terrier scouts for interesting stuff in the pasture.

WHO ACCOSTED CAMILLE

Making her laugh because she was unable to fend off Molly's frenetic, wet, affection.
